Many thanks to Jacqui, Marilyn & Julie for your help. I have looked at the photo I took and apart from the last line have been able to work out all the words. The only word visible on the last line is the last word "before" as the sandstone was very old and crumbly. So the last line is either: I am not lost but gone before or I am not dead but gone before The very faint writing probably looks more like "lost" than "death" Thank you all for your suggestions.
