I see this group/list/site as a place where people meet and exchange views - a sort of electronic morning tea/meeting/visit. I often read in the background and never say anything, sometimes I blurt out, sometimes I contribute and then I don't turn up for months at a time. However I always say who I am and where I come from - sort of a name badge for strangers.
