Dear Paul, John and others, You might want to look at this page: http://www.macbeth.com.au/digger/support.html#windows7 to understand the how's and why's of using older programs with the new 64 bit Windows 7 From an older posting: "Sounds like the DOS programmes are 32 bit.???? and behave the same as the old Digger programs." I think this is a true statement. It doesn't cost the $200 you mentioned...... It's FREE if you have a genuine version of Windows 7 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ Cheers, Tony Moore (Castle Hill, NSW) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ On 22 Nov 2011 at 19:11, Paul Mackenzie wrote: Date sent: Tue, 22 Nov 2011 19:11:04 +1000 From: Paul Mackenzie <[email protected]> Subject: Re: NSW Pioneer Index To: [email protected] > On 21/10/2011 4:37 PM, John Cowie wrote: > > I have just upgraded to Windows 7& find that when I try to load the NSW > > Pioneer Index I get the message "cannot read NSWPI.CFG." > > > > Can anybody help with a solution? > > > > John Cowie > > > See Microsoft Windows site. Yes Virtualbox does work --but you still need a copy of windows to run as the virtual operating system. However an alternatve is to run LINUX as the virtualized system and then run LINUX WINE. Wine allows Windows applications to be run without needing a copy of WINDOWS.. virtualbox , Linux, and WINE are all free to download and install The VIRTUALBOX,LINUX and WINE option is the one I use here on my APPLE IMAC if its just the Digger programs that used DOS operating system that you want to run then Virtual box will support a virtualised instance of DOS - a copy of IBM DOS should be easy to find and is npt interlocked to licence numbers and validatin processes to the same extent as Windows.
