    3. I just came across a newspaper funeral notice with this stipulation: "By request, no flowers. No female mourners." Was it was a case of not wanting wailing women at the graveside, this man had four daughters so it seems a bit mean to exclude them - has anyone else seen this before? Will probably never know the reason why, but very curious. cheers Erica

    3. thanks for the replies, I could see this as being common in Victorian times but was really surprised to find so many instances of it carried well into the 20th century. Interesting, you've satisfied my curiosity! cheers Erica
