But why does he also appear in 1905? Was it that the death wasn't registered until then? Twenty-one years seems a long delay. Or perhaps just some sort of mix-up in compiling the indexes. The only time you are likely to get EXTRA information is if the bride was under the age of 21. I have a C of E marriage certificate from 1873. The minister was Francis Bertie Boyce. He added a paragraph giving the mother's name as the one who gave her consent, since the bride's father had died in 1864. Apparently "F. Bertie Boyce" was known to be 'ahead of his times' in many ways and very conscientious. 3. Hi Pat. I just had a quick search through Ancestry's catalogue and the only directory series I could see was the Sands Directories for Sydney and NSW (1858-1933). As Tom said, the SLV would have them. I remember visiting the PRO at Laverton years ago and they had a great collection of them there. Presumably now available in the North Melbourne archives centre. Fwiw, I have the 1951 and 1967 Sands & McDougalls for Victoria. This doesn't help you with your specific request but the following two directories are available online via the NAA site: The Ballarat Suburban and District Directory for 1906-1907 http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=3388892 Sands and McDougall's Bendigo and District Directory for 1896-1897 http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=663757 I wish they would put them ALL online. regards, Martin Elliget On Wednesday, January 22, 2014 4:03:10 PM UTC+11, Pat Wade wrote: > Hi all, > > > > I don't have Ancestry or Find my past at home but > > can access it at our local library but before I > > attempt to race the kids to the computers tomorrow > > morning (I will be glad when the all go back to > > school next week or so :-)) > > > > I am wondering if someone can confirm where > > either of these have Melbourne Directories 1915 - > > 1926. > > > > Thank you > > Pat

    3. Hi. A slightly strange one here. The death of one William Benedict Ford of Pt Nepean appears both in the Vic Pioneers (1884) and Edwardian indexes (1905). The details are the same. The reg no in the former matches the reg no and year in the latter. Vic Pioneers Index: Surname: FORD Given names: WM BENEDICT Father: SANDLE JAS Mother: SULLIVAN HANNAH Age: 38 Year: 1884 Reg No: 10312X1905 Edwardian Index: Surname: FORD Given names: Wm Benedict Event: D Father: Ford Jas Sandle Mother: Hannah SULLIVAN Age: 38 Death place: Pt Nepean Year: 1905 Reg No: 10312 He was born in Pt Nepean in 1846, so the death in 1884 looks to be correct (age 38). But why does he also appear in 1905? Was it that the death wasn't registered until then? Twenty-one years seems a long delay. Or perhaps just some sort of mix-up in compiling the indexes. 3. Hi Tony, Thank you very much for these - most I had already found but the one I hadn't had a uniform very close (Full Dress, Captain NSW Commissarist and Transport Corps 1891) The main differences are the helmet had a point not a "small ball" and the sash had two stripes on base colour (making total of 5 stripes). I have emailed AWM via their site and did say I could attach a photo if that would help and the next step I guess is the Victorian museum. Thank you I really do appreciate all suggestions. 3. Hi all, I have a photo of a wedding in 1901 in Melbourne. One of the groomsmen is in uniform with a pith helmet with a spike also a sash possibly white with two coloured stripes. On googling it appears (I hope) that these helmets were used with "home service units" and on googling that it appears that there are a number of different varieties - Voluntary, professional and semi-professional. I've taken a "fancy" to the semi-professional as a possibility - no real reason for this though. Does anyone know if there are records for these anywhere - especially names as I suspect that the groomsman is a brother of the groom but not sure if he is Max or Laurence King. Thank you for any guidance. Pat
