Hi Jenny, I logged in okay, but can't get the 'Deceased Search' to work. Started with family I know are buried there, but the screen just hangs. I'm using IE as the site suggested, perhaps there's still a few glitches to sort out. :) Kind regards, Sherrie. Hi FarmI I'm having the same problem - there is no login link on the blue bit at the top of the screen for me either. I've tried with Firefox and Explorer and it makes no difference - there is no link. I don't really understand why they do personalities rather than people with interesting families. Does Ron cry - footballers do here and everyone in WDYTYA has to cry?
At first I thought that Geoff's question was a joke, but then I remembered 'The Barassi Line' as defined by the noted Australian historian, the late Professor Ian Turner, in his 'Ron Barassi Memorial Lecture' in 1978. To quote: 'Australia is divided by a deep cultural rift known as the Barassi Line. It runs between Canberra, Broken Hill, Birdsville and Maningrida (Arnhem Land) and it divides Australia between Rugby and Rules'. There's some debate about the exact course of the line (should Canberra be in or out; how much of Queensland plays AFL and so on), but if Geoff's question is serious, then he's obviously from the east of it! Initially, some episodes of the UK series were shown here featuring personalities who were known in Australia - Stephen Fry, Jeremy Clarkson, Nigella Lawson etc. They obviously had such a good audience response that it was decided to do a series of well known Australians. > Does Ron cry - footballers do > here and everyone in WDYTYA has to cry? Yes, but he did have something to cry about. His father was killed at Tobruk in 1941 when Ron was 5, and he met veterans who were with his father when he died. There was also a particularly poignant story about a convict ancestor from Ireland. I would have cried too. Vivien

I am enquiring if there is anyone researching a Lachlan McDonald and wife Effy and family who emmigrated to Australia on the Georgiana arriving at Geelong late 1852, he and his family settled in Victoria . His brother's Norman and John also arrived at the same time on the same ship along with his sister Christy and her children who was married to Keith McAlister. My email address is sbcoleman01@gmail.com Many thanks Susie Coleman
Logon is in top right hand corner in the blue bar. Once you logon, the search command is also in the top right hand corner on the blue bar. Had no trouble with the search except that if there is no result - it looks as if it is hanging. It does not come back with a message to say that there are no results. For those who have found the on-line Rookwood (NSW) Anglican and General Cemetery site at http://rookwoodcemetery.com.au/ they need to be cautious to the sites references to "Date of death" as the dates shown are not the death date but the interment date. Hi Robert Thanks for the warning about death/burial dates. I had started to change some death dates. Site is good but would be better if the search engine could be only surname as this would give a list of given names that one can patch into the family or at least widen the search Kind regards Terry Walsh Bayswater Western Australia 6053 Robert G Eldridge wrote: > For those who have found the on-line Rookwood (NSW) Anglican and > General Cemetery site at http://rookwoodcemetery.com.au/ they need to > be cautious to the sites references to "Date of death" as the dates > shown are not the death date but the interment date. > > You would think they would know the difference! > >
Hi, I have been searching, without much luck, for the arrival of my GGG Grandmother Margaret CAITHNESS nee ROBERTSON, her daughter Jean CAITHNESS and brother James ROBERTSON. Also her son James Robertson CAITHNESS. I know that Margaret was still in Dundee in 1851 - I have her and her two daughters there. But I cannot find them in 1861. He eldest daughter is the last to arrive in Australia and she came on the Utopia in 1861. Cousins came on the Earl of Charlemont 1853 and S Curling 1860. Death certificate suggest arrival in 1848 - a little out (so was her age!!) The death certificate of her son suggests his arrival in 1853. I did find this for - MAY 1855 BOOMERANG B 093 005 CATHNESS JANE 48 CATHNESS MARGT 27 But the ages would have to be back to front?? Any direct or if someone is also researching this family would be very welcome. Thank you Regards, Pat Wade (Nee King) Melb, Vic
A reminder that the first episode will air tonight at 7:30pm AEST on SBS, featuring Ron Barassi.
I see this group/list/site as a place where people meet and exchange views - a sort of electronic morning tea/meeting/visit. I often read in the background and never say anything, sometimes I blurt out, sometimes I contribute and then I don't turn up for months at a time. However I always say who I am and where I come from - sort of a name badge for strangers. Dropping in and letting fly with: >> please test and give feedback is not appropriate in your day to day life and I see it as extremely rude in this instance as well. Not having the manners to sign your post or explain anything is just another example of the lack of day to day niceties that are becoming worse the more people use the internet. Where is it written that because you use the internet you can expect instant gratification and have no need to use basic good manners? Forgive me but it appears you are advertising yourself as a web designer who creates websites for cemeteries Are you doing this commercially or as a volunteer? Your answer to this would tell me what my feedback would be. I would have a higher expectation of you if you are charging for creating the websites and I would expect a different level of complexity in the websites. If you are doing them for free then I have a lower expectation. A page setting out who you are and what you do is always a good way to get positive feedback. If you are advertising your services then some info would be appreciated that you are doing so. If you want us to test each individual website that you have designed then an explanation of what you want us to do is appropriate.
