    1. NSW Birth Registration Name Alteration Query
    2. Brent
    3. G'day. I have come across alterations made much later to NSW birth certificates, but a recent transcript I obtained also included a reference number, specifically a "Papers No. 4207/08" by the Deputy Registrar General, Sydney 13 Oct 1908, for a birth in 1864. I thought this might have pointed to another birth registration in the indexes, but couldn't find one for either 1864 or 1908. If anyone has come across a similar "Papers No." notation on a birth registration, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks Brent

    2. Natalie, The website given by Jewelly as http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/ is of course that of the Public Record Office of Victoria, which is NOT the BDM site for Victoria. 3. Hi John Go to the Archives Office of Tasmania web site at: http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/nameindexes Name Index on the left and go to Tasmanian Convicts - then type in his name as Dorset and John in the appropriate places. From there you should be able to find his Conduct Record that is available..... although you will probably have to travel through the pages to find his particular record. Read the instructions :) regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://www.claimaconvict.net/index.html -----Original Message----- From: genanz-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:genanz-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of johnb Sent: Monday, September 28, 2009 6:48 PM To: genanz@rootsweb.com Subject: Convict pardons/Tickets to leave Could someone tell me what these contain please? I know nothing of Australian genealogy or where to start tracing someone who has completed their sentence. I thought the whole of my family was in the UK but have just found my ggg-grandfather John Dorset/Dorsett(Dossett) b c1805 Middlesex (marr Jemima Peplow 1831) who was sentenced to transportation at the Old Bailey on 11 April 1840 and sent to Van Diemans Land on the Susan on 21 April 1842 which arrived 21 July 1842. According to Ancestry there is a record for him in New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia, Convict Pardons and Tickets of Leave, 1834-1859 but I cannot see it as I don't have a Worldwide subscription so don't know whether it would add any useful information. thank you for any assistance John

    3. What I usually do when you need to type in a first name is type in the most common names such as William, Thomas John, James, Henry etc and the same with the females, Mary, Elizabeth Catherine etc. My Uebel family, for example, has a set of about 10 male Christian names that were used throughout the first 3 generations in Australia so I always try those as well. I have not found anything that I have not already found on the Rookwood Cemetery Transcription CD, or by visiting the cemetery on many occasions, but most of my family were either Presbyterian or RC. Although it needs improvement it is a good start and (surely) can only get better. As the OP who asked, my thanks for all the help. I've now managed to find the one person in my family who I already knew was buried at Rookwood but I really wouldn't give the site a huge thumbs up as I would really have liked a grave loaction reference. I knew she was at Rookwood and what section of the Necropolis she is planted in. And Robert is quite right about that 'date of death' - it wasn't her death date but her burial date.
