Please can anyone stop me going insane?!!! On sunday I accessed a site that had digitised copies of 19th century Australian newspapers. I was reading copies of the "Observer" from SA. I was 99% certain I accessed them through the National Library of Australia. Now I cannot find the site again.(Not the NLA site - the one that had the papers) I've gone through all the listings in the NLA site and cannot find it. It had all Australian papers from the 19c (I think) Can anyone popint me in the right direction? I kmow I wasn't dreaming! I've tried googling with every combination I know - to no avail Thanks in advance Phil

Dear Lists, I am still searching for a Edward McDonnell /McDonald) who arrived in Hobart with his wife Bridget, daughter Ellen and son John on the Clyde 1833. This family just disappeared after arriving in Hobart. A son Thomas born 1836 (on his wedding cert he said he was born in Hobart Van Diemen's Land) I cannot find his birth. Thomas married Ann Malony in 1856 in Victoria. I have searched every possible place but have not found a single thing. Except for Thomas's marriage I would have decided they didn't stay in Australia in 1833, even thought they may have continued back to England????? Please can anyone help. I only call for help on the lists when I have come to a complete stop and of late have had some wonderful information from all three lists. The only information I have is a letter from England instructing that the Captain of the Clyde be given 20 pounds by the Governor, for Edward and his familie's passage to Tasmania. Many thanks Irene Email: irene.schaffer@bigpond.com Website: http://www.tasfamily.net.au/~schafferi/ Lady Nelson: www.ladynelson.org.au

Greetings one and all For starters I have Googled and Binged for an answer but nothing pops up. I have found an entry in the Ryerson Index that is the person that I want, but where do I go from here? I have been to the Sydney Morning Herald site and tried to search under the given date, but to no avail. How do I get a copy of a Death Notice for 28 September 1970 from the SMH? Thank you in advance Ray Green

Lucky you to at least Already know the trial details :-)) If you go to the Society of Australian Genealogists (SAG) and select under 'Most Popular Pages" the section called "Our Research Guides" then "Convicts To NSW" you will see a section in there on "Ticket of Leave" which will tell You some of the things you 'might' find on a TOL (if you're lucky). Can anyone help me on this organisation for the City of Melbourne, I can't seem to find any refererence to it on the Web, there are other states but not Victoria. I would just like to know more details and what the peoples responsibilites were. regards Beryl
Hello all It appears the convicts John Dorsett/Ann Davis did stay in Tasmania, so perhaps some kind person with the records could search for children after 1849, for OP who made the earlier query, who had thought they went to Melbourne. Regards, Kate (Sydney, Australia)

I've now traced John Dorset(t)s release and his marriage to Ann Davis. They seems to have moved to Melbourne in 1852. From a limited search I couldn't find any obvious BMD records there so it is possible they moved on. john

John died in 1891 in Hobart. Vivien

Thanks for the reply Jewelly. As the only info I have is that Alfred William HUNT was born in 1906 (VIC) to parents Albert James HUNT and Catherine Maria neé SCOTT and was still alive in 1950 I have no idea where he lived or died or if he married or had children. Where his father died (Melbourne) is, unfortunately, not relevant . I was hoping that someone with a CD of any state's BDM's may be able to do a quick search on his name. I understand (maybe incorrectly) that the Victorian CDs have a slightly wider time range than that which is searchable online. Regards, Mary Ann "Jewelly" <jewelly66@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:mailman.623.1254143944.19407.genanz@rootsweb.com... HI Natalie Each state and territory has a different marriage register. Which state did you think these people may now reside or been married in? Did the father die in Victoria or elsewhere?? NSW marriage index is searchable till 1958, the other states are less generous in this detail. The State Records Acts limit what is available perhaps a search of the online Victorian Records which are searchable online may hold some further information when you do a search there. http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/ Each state has a similar body and often Wills and other paraphanalia may be searchable online. cheers Jewelly
