    2. Cemetery Lady
    3. The cemetery lady site is commerical but one link in a post seemed smarter than three links to free websites. The bad site has been updated to include all the feedback even the bad. Since I am a money hungry bitch which seemed to be more important than the websites that were designed by me for your use at no charge or perhaps I should charge money to access those sites. Give a hand to Helen in Queensland. What a great idea. Here are the three links for non commerical use......lol.... and no I will not charge you to use the websites I designed them for fun and to highlight the Central Coast but this point is missed in the negative feedback. Enjoy the sites guys. http://www.ozhist.info/spencer/ http://www.ozhist.info/stpauls/ http://www.ozhist.info/saratoga/

    3. >From The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser, 9 March 1882 -- TAMWORTH. (Tamworth News of Tuesday) A sad and painful accident happened on Saturday morning last, about six a.m. at Mr. W. Coulton's farm, near Manilla. During the threshing season, it is customary for the neighbouring farmers to assist each other, and for this purpose a young fellow named James Ahern, son of Mr. W. Ahern, of Dead Horse Gully, was on top of the threshing-machine used. Some sheaves of wheat were being thrown up, and on to one of these "young Jim," as he is familiarly called, placed his right foot, which slipped into the machine together with the sheaf of wheat. The sudden jerk thus occasioned caused the belt to slip off the wheel, or the accident might have been attended with more disastrous results. As it was, his right leg, up to the shin bone, was completely smashed. He was brought into Tamworth the same day, where he was attended to by Drs. White and Frean. They decided that amputation of the injured limb would be necessary in order to save the young fellow's life, and this operation was successfully performed on Sunday morning. From the time of the accident up to the time the limb was amputated--twenty-four hours--the poor fellow suffered intense agony, but immediately the operation was performed relief came to him. On making enquiries this morning, we leam that he is progressing as favourably as can be expected. To show the serious nature of the accident, and to give an idea of the suffering that must have been endured, we may mention that portions of the toes and the shin bones were afterwards picked out of the machine. ------------------------------------------------ Historic Australian Newspapers, 1803 to 1954 http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Aherns in Australian Records http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~aherns/ahcrim.htm ------------------------------------------------

    3. My father commenced with the PMG dept as a telegram boy in 1919 aged 13 in Jerilderie NSW. He was too young for appointment and had to wait until he was 16 in 1922 for permanent employment. He remained all his life with the PMG retiring in 1971. Hope this helps Chris H. 3. Hi Vicki, If you can get to a Family History Centre, that has the old NSW ERC (Early Church Records) on micro-film, you may find Thomas' death. I have found in the past, that not all the ERC records seemed to have made it onto the NSW BDM's website. 3. Hi Listers A big THANK YOU to the kind folk on this list who have assisted me with suggestions and one person who looked up and copied a passenger list for me as i search for the ship my GGrandmother Bridget Kelly came to Australia in. It might be her and it might not, but because Bridget Kelly and James Kelly had different ticket numbers I can almost certainly deduce that this James is not her brother. It's great to have the list as a point of reference as I continue to search. Again I reiterate -I am very grateful for the generosity of thought and time that I have received from folk on this list. Kind Regards Chris New Zealand

    3. >From The Perth Courier, 30 April 1875 -- Great Fire at Clayton About 4 in the morning last Wed., a fire broke out in the stables at the rear of Ahearn’s Hotel. Owing to a high wind which was blowing at the time, the flames spread rapidly, enwrapping the entire outbuildings and then communicating to the hotel adjoining, speedily enveloped it also, barely allowing the inmates to escape with their lives. From the hotel the flames spread to the lumber yard of D. Drummond, Esq., completely consuming the lumber piles. Herculean attempts were made by the inhabitants to save Mr. Drummond’s shingle and saw mills but all attempts were ineffectual and soon the mills were engulfed in the fiery element. The carding mill of T. Blair, Esq., adjoining the saw mill, then became ignited and was quickly a smouldering mass of ruins. At this stage of the fire, desperate attempts were made by energetic citizens to save Mr. Drummond’s grist mill and confine the fire to the carding mill, which attempts were, fortunately, effectual. Mr. Ahern’s loss is about $2,500, insured in the Farmer’s Mutual for $1,500; Mr. Drummond’s loss is about $6,000, no insurance. Mr. Blair’s loss will be covered by $1,000, no insurance. ------------------------------------------------ Historic Australian Newspapers, 1803 to 1954 http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Aherns in Australian Records http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~aherns/ahcrim.htm ------------------------------------------------
