Hi Marg and All You actually have to type "New South Wales" in full for it to search properly. It wont take abbreviations as far as I can work out. Thanks Lorrie for the update. Unfortunately it's difficult to 'have fun' as Ancestry have introduced a problem with the search function for this database. Using All for the State is OK but if I select a State where the All search shows results for that State then nothing is returned. Let's hope it's fixed. While the're at it they could reclassify database named; "Maryborough, Queensland Australia Immigrants from the British Isles & Germany 1861-91" from its current "Court, Land, Wills & Financial" Category to their "Immigration & Emigration" Category but I won't be holding my breath. -- Bob
With the collective knowledge of this list, I was hoping to find some information about the Soldiers Settlement Frenchs Forest in the North of Sydney. I have records of my great grandparents residing there in the late 1940's but can't seem to find much in the way of information about the settlement. Any info will be gratefully received as usual. Thank you. Best Wishes Sharon
>From The Canberra Times, 4 July 1928 -- BEAM SNAPS Three Workmen Fall TWO KILLED -- SYDNEY, Tuesday When a beam, supporting a scaffolding plant at the Australian Gaslight Company's new gasometers at Alexandria, snapped this morning, three men were hurled 22ft. to the concrete floor below. Edward Garden, 51, boilermaker, was killed outright, and William Clark, 31, boilermaker, died in hospital. William Ahern, boilermaker, sustained a fractured skull and ribs, and injuries to the spine. His condition is very serious. The men bad been working at the job for about two years and were to have finished within a fortnight. One man, who saw the scaffold give way, said it all happened so suddenly that there was no time to give any warning. The beam, just seemed to snap in halves and the men appeared to go with It. ------------------------------------------------ Historic Australian Newspapers, 1803 to 1954 http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Aherns in Australian Records http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~aherns/ahcrim.htm ------------------------------------------------

HI Cheryl, Just for your reference, :o) the"State Library" in every state keeps the Daily Newspapers of every Capital City. Get Linux, please, Tom. Helen, there are relatively few recent posts there - about 5 in the last week, including spammers. Have you used upper-case names, or something?
