    3. Hi All, I am looking for some verification for my research regarding Richard Newham's grant of land in the early 1800's. After searching the early Prospect parish maps and finding the 50 acres I have copied this map and overlayed it on the 'Google' map for the same area using Corel paint shop pro. The 50 acres looks to be near Eastern Creek raceway but more specifically across the Western Motorway at Huntingwood (Healey Cct & Ford St) stretching across to the Great Western Hwy. If some kind person who knows the history could check my research I would be most grateful. I see a Newham St in Dean Park but was disappointed when that landmark was 11 k's away from the area I think belonged to Richard Newham. I will send the map if anyone wants a look, just send your email address. Kaye Payne.

    1. St David's Presbyterian Church, Sydenham, Christchurch
    2. Does anyone on the list have any photos of St David's Presbyterian Church in Christchurch? A friend is wanting some, as this was where her parents were married in the early 1950s. She understands the church was demolished sometime in the 1970s. There was a jubilee pamphlet published at some stage also. If anyone is able to scan some photos and or the booklet she would be very thankful. Thanks Janice Searle Darfield, NZ

    1. WILLIAMS Joseph and Mary Magdalene Elizabeth nee FARRAR
    2. Searching for descendants of above as I am researching the Farrar family. Dr John William FARRAR 1889-1966 had two sons, John and James, both doctors also at Potts Point and Bondi. both the latter passed away over last couple of years. having difficulty finding relatives, even out of the white pages. particularly doing a story on Dr JW 1889-1966, have his WWI service record etc and everying I could find off ancestry.com, RPA where he worked after the war etc. However, would love to find family with photos, maybe correspondence or whatever. as a long shot, Mary Magdalene was his sister. many thanks Lina Moffitt

Er, yeah, and "David Coggins scam" produces 44,400 hits. So much for your credibility, or at least your understanding of what Google search results mean. ;) ### Seriously, OGF has been around for a long time. They are, so far as I know, a scam pretty much in the same sense Ancestry is: paying them money doesn't guarantee a useful result. OGF may or may not be worth the subscription fee. That's gonna depend on the researcher and the family line. And yes, Linkpendium is an OGF affiliate. But the amount of money in question is so small that you can be reasonably sure that my remarks are unbiased. Cheers, B.

    3. Hi, no expert on portuguese here, but I'd say the word 'fim' might be not 'purpose' but 'end' .. in that he met his end, his life was ended. Direct translation word by word is really hard, especially by machines, and it's a wonder that they do as well as they do. My meagre Italian and a Portugese dictionary makes me think that it might be something like this: A Grande Guerra pela Civilização The great war for civilisation Em 1897, por exemplo, John Sperrin Ross In 1897, for example, John Sperrin Ross teve um fim semelhante, had/met a similar end «assassinado por um fanático assassinated by a fanatic na cidade de Peshawar, in the city of Peshawar no Dia do Jubileu» on the day of jubilee. I found a similar line on a website that seems to be a spanish version of the same document: "En 1897, por ejemplo, John Sperrin Ross sufrió un destino similar, «asesinado por un fanático en la ciudad de Peshawar el día del Jubileo" which, since I know a crumb or 2 of Spanish, seems to bear out my guesses above. (http://bdigital.binal.ac.pa/VALENZANI%20POR%20ORGANIZAR/La%20Gran%20Guerra%20por%20la%20civilizaci%C3%B3n-Period%C3%ADstico.doc) Hope this is of some help, Trisha __________________________________________________________________________________ Get more done like never before with Yahoo!7 Mail. 3. Dear All, I'm sure someone out there knows the answer to this question: Are there indexes available that cover engagement and wedding notices/articles for the Sydney Morning Herald for 1917 to 1922? If there are, how can I access them, please? I want to find 2 engagement notices for my grandmother, but thought I'd ask before trying to sift through all those newspapers! Thanks in advance, Jeny

    3. Margo, I have never used them. But the scam angle is not quiet correct. You google with quotes "One Great Family" +scam and you only get 1580 hits. Of these most are articles with the word scam in it some where, not necessarily about One Great Family. A google of "one great family" +reviews has 14000 hits. 3. Hi Mary, Are you subscribing to the new subscription that includes the 1911 census ? I was sent an email a couple of days ago inviting me to upgrade my subscription, but the links in the email only link to pay as you go credit purchase, and I haven't been able to update through "my account" either. I have sent emails to FMP but no response. Perhaps they are having trouble coping with the deluge of interest ? 3. Thank you to all those who replied to my query. I should have stated I had already checked out all those sights and was a contributor myself to Trevor McLaughlin's book. I was also a foundation member of the Hyde Park Irish Famine Orphans Society. Some years ago I contacted the Maitland Genealogy/Historical Society , but had no luck there either. So maybe those records no longer exist. Ancestry.com is O.K. for the States, but I have only one ancestor there. For the rest of te world, there are better alternatives.
