All I use Thunderbird as my email programme (but I understand that others, like Outlook now have the same facility) which 'learns' what's junk mail and dumps it immediately into a separate folder. From that folder I can check its decisions or, as normally happens, just delete the whole lot in one go. In the few years I've been using it, it hasn't falsely labelled a real email as junk. Occasionally (about one every other day), I will have a spam message in my inbox that the programme can't decide on, and I just label it as junk if necessary, it's then deleted, and the programme learns for the future. Most internet service providers have their own spam filters these days, so only a limited amount gets through anyway. I always use my real email address and put it all over the place and have no more bother than I've outlined above. I dislike the idea of a falsified address as a crude measure and I know a lot of people find it very annoying, particularly on a mailing or news list. I do remember (was it five or so years ago) when the spamsters became very active, and email became almost unusable with the flood of junk in inboxes, but those days are long ago. Was he a staff member or student?? Both will have university email addresses.. tricks is to know which he is.. and how the university puts together its email system.. http://www.adelaide.edu.au/directory/nigel.cook also you could contact the university direct.. they wont give his details out.. but they may pass a message on to his email for you. Then he could contact you... cheers Jewelly Shift your problems to challenges. When you have problems, you worry about them. Good for you, Keith. I regard the use of fake email addresses as quite inappropriate on a genealogy mailing list, even when it is also gatewayed to a newsgroup. Fake email addresses imply that we are giving in to spammers and pseudonyms (with no name or location) imply that the sender is not really serious or has something to hide. I don't like spam, but it is no big deal to hit the delete key, at least until better ways of preventing spam are found (And I'm sure that will eventually happen). I would like more info on this couple. apparently they had 11 children, one was Margaret Bennett Moore so I was wondering what the relationship to the Bennetts was and whether it is the Bennetts of Parramatta who were the coach builders. I have not been able to find them on ancestry.com Margaret married James Glen WIlson a surveyor and he died young, so I'm wondering what happened to Margaret and whether they had children. many thanks Lin

Hi, I would like some links to publicly available data apart from links as via e.g. Cyndi's list (duplicates are no problem, will be edited). Is there some FAQ on this list or some other more general site pointing to other sites were information can be found (especially since about 1910). I'd like to add some data to my Kuiper branch (my mothers side) and know some did leave for New Zealand. Most I know is through my uncle (recently deceased) via his correspondence with the family. As the whole family might still be living I'd rather not put too many details on Usenet. Part of the problem is that I know there are as many rules to publicly available data on persons (recent and possibly living that is) as there are countries. I do not know yet what is available in Australia+NZ as to the more recent records. Any option to search is welcome. Redirecting this message from AUS-QLD-BRISBANE@rootsweb.com ----- Original Message ----- From: joan reichardt To: ronhume2@bigpond.com Sent: Monday, October 12, 2009 9:05 AM Subject: Thomas David Hosking Hello from Canada, I am looking for descendants of the above, Thomas David R. Hosking. He was born in Felpham, Sussex, UK in 1879. He came to Australia in August of 1913 on the Orantes, apparently settling in Victoria. He was a younger brother of my grandmother, Rose Nellie Hosking, Born October 1877. The eldest brother Frederick North Hosking was killed in the Great War, in May of 1917. Earlier this year I was able to visit his grave. There were two more sisters, Kate and Elsie, and the youngest brother, William. As a child in Richmond, Surrey, I knew Auntie Elsie and Uncle Bill (who lost an arm and was badly gassed and shell shocked in the war) well and was always aware of Uncle Fred because his name was on the War Memorial. But I never knew Uncle Tom existed never mind had gone to Australia, until I started researching Uncle Fred's gravesite. I married a Canadian soldier in 1945, coming to Canada as a war bride, in 1946. I got a list of 'Hosking' listings in the Victoria phone book and wrote numerous letters but no results. I got you as a contact from an Australian war bride, who married an American. Any help or direction you can offer will be gratefully received. Thank you , Joan Reichardt, Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.
DARBY RYAN Windsor I am wondering if anyone on this list can look at the Hawkwsbury Pioneers for any entries for Darby Ryan. I now have his death certificate and he died 12th June 1880 buried RC cemetery Windsor and was of Mulgrave and a farmer. He married Susannah Davis/Davison 1869 Windsor and on his death she states that there were 7 females living and 1 female & 1 male deceased. It would appear that the children were bpt between 1843 and 1850 and 2 registered 1857 & 1859. Cant't find all of them or any marriages in Windsor area for them either. Known children are: Jane 1843; Bridget 1844; Jane 1847; Mary 1847 died 1865 Windsor; Ellen 1850; Female 1857 Windsor; Margaret 1859 Windsor. Susannah gave the info on the certificate but didn't name the children. Susannah remarried in 1881 to Thomas AKINS and she died 1890 McGrath's Hill bur RC Windsor. Darby is listed in the 1872 Greville's Directory as Farmer, Portland Head, Ebenezer. He was a convict and came to NSW in 1827 on the "Eliza 11 (1)" and went to Portland Head as per 1828 census. I would like to make contact with descendants. I am from Timothy Ryan brother of Darby who was also sent to NSW on the same ship and he settled in Warkworth NSW after serving his time in the Pitt Town district. Any help much appreciated.
