Hi, can sks help with this one? The Rev T. Dowell arrived in Melborne aboard the Cornwall in October 1855. In 1861 he appears at Yackandandah and there the trail goes cold. He does not appear to have died in Victoria. I don't even know what denomination he represented. Any ideas?

Hi Karen, > Unfortunately I forgot to mention that the marriage was > registered in 1840. The Data collected site starts with > marriages from 1854. Yup, that puts a completely different light on things, and my reply would have been very different had I known this little bit of information. ;-) The government did not get involved in the registration of marriages until the Marriages Act 1854 was passed and came into law, and marriages before this date won't be found at BDM Historical Records (http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/home/) Am I correct in assuming that you found this marriage listed on the NZSG CD "New Zealand Marriages 1836-1956" (http://www.genealogy.org.nz/Sales_11.aspx?CategoryId=11)? This early marriage is quite likely to be a part of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists' (NZSG, http://www.genealogy.org.nz/) Pre-1856 Marriages Collection (read about it in the Marriages disk introduction). You can also read about the collection on the web site if you log in as a member (ie, it is in the members-only part of the web site and not visible to the general public). Contact NZSG to find out more about the records they are holding. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard *** Please reply to the list/newsgroup *** -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/>

Whether the parents should be recorded on a marriage depends on when the marriage took place. Take a look at the "Data Collected" link at BDM Historical Records (http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/home/) to see what the law said should be recorded at the time. Hello I have now received my New Zealand Birth certificate of Mary Walker. Parents are Robert Walker carpenter and wife Johanna Corkery. I found a marriage of a Johana Corkery to Robert Walker in the index, will this marriage have parents details listed? I would also be interested to hear from anyone with a interest in this family. Regards Karen
Her birth was *registered* in 1916, Samantha, which means that she was probably born that year, but could have been born in 1915 or even before that.
