If you are seeking the marriage place for Charles William Smith's first marriage then this should be shown on the birth certificates of his children to his first wife. Also you can easily check what papers have been indexed and the coverage of that . Maybe was no notice published ? Well, we could have a discussion about all the bad things which have happened because people were being "nice" instead of being honest, but that would be off topic. > Sorry just think this was an unnecessary reply I disagree. After 12 years of trawling through these messages I think it could be the most helpful reply the original poster receives. Because, if people have to read a message 5 or 6 times to work out what the poster is trying to say, they just give up - they're too busy. Punctuation and spelling and grammar aren't optional extras - they are necessary to make your meaning clear. If someone asks for help but can't be bothered to ask the question clearly, then others aren't going to be bothered to reply. So the person seeking help misses out. It's just a matter of good manners: if you ask for help, please assist the helpers to help! Vivien

    1. Seeking gt-uncle Albert Gibbard Bennett
    2. Jeny Shepherd
    3. Dear All, I am trying to find the marriage and death information for my gt-uncle, Albert Gibbard Bennett who was born in NZ. I know he served in the Australian Army in WWI; I've heard a family story that after the War he married a girl named Dorothy(?) and they moved to Echuca (?) where they may have owned a shop. They may have had 3 sons, one of whom may have been Robert Gibbard Bennett. I've found Albert mentioned in a family document that says he died on 17/6/1953, but I don't know where. I've done quite wide searches of the Victorian and NSW records online and can't seem to find his death or a marriage recorded. Given the location of Echuca, I suppose it could be possible that they moved on to South Australia, but I've never heard anything to say they did. I know he was living in Ascot Vale, Vic, in 1924, as I've found him on the electoral roll, but that's the last mention of him I can find anywhere. Can anyone help, please? Many thanks in advance, Jeny

    1. Re: nsw bdm -- Charles William SMITH

    3. Welcome to the group, Jen. There are lots of people on the newsgroup and on the companion mailing list who would be willing to help, but we really need a bit more information, and we need to know just what it is that you are looking for. And, it helps a lot if you make your subject heading more specific, use proper upper/lower case, and put all surnames in block capitals. It's also a help if you tell us where you are so that we can suggest resources that are available to you. The NSW BDM Registry at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm has a Charles William SMITH whose birth was registered in 1870 at Sydney, parents being (another!) Charles William and Margaret SMITH. This appears to be the one you're referring to, but from there on it gets more difficult. SMITH is, of course, a difficult name to research, but if you try Charles W. SMITH in the Marriages Index, you'll see there is one marriage (to Kate CURLEY) in 1891. They appear to have had 7 children by 1902, but unfortunately the given names do not match those you provided. I made several attempts to find the birth entries for the 3 children, without any success. Where did your information come from? I could not find the second marriage in the NSW Marriages Index. Indeed, there is only one marriage for a bride named ROSSAU in the whole index (and that was in 1950). Were they married in NSW? Are you sure about the surname? What is the certificate that you refer to? Happy to help if you can provide more information, and tell us exactly what it is that you are looking for. Hearn, who was born at Epping in 1842, a year after the arrival of his parents in the colony. His death took place on Friday 23rd August, somewhat unexpectedly. Mr. Hearn followed the occupation of a farmer and grazier, and his widow and family are left in comfortable circumstances. 3. Hi Listers To help a friend in England I wonder if there is anyone out there who could further her resarch: "I wonder if you would be able to help me re research in Australia in respect of a CHARLES MUSGRAVE who was born in Bath circa 1834. He migrated to Australia circa 1853 and died in Melbourne Hospital on the 17th September 1864 from 'Paralysis Debility'. His profession - a teacher and he was unmarried. Parents names not given on his death certificate. (We know that the father was THOMAS MOORE MUSGRAVE and his mother was MARY whose surname we have not yet confirmed) I've tried to see if I could find him arriving in Australia as a passenger circa 1853, but cannot find anything about him. I wonder if he travelled there as a sailor on a ship and then he stayed when the ship docked. Was everyone listed on arrival, including members of ships?" I have checked Victorian and NSW immigration records online and Ancestry but no luck either. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Joanne
