Hello Listers, When I sent my email to the list, about including names and addresses in emails, I mistakenly thought I was contributing to a discussion on that subject. I thought the subject line was a bit off the topic, and I should probably have checked the archives before putting my view forward, but I didn't. I have been on this list for many years and realise it is gatewayed with the soc.genealogy.australia+nz newsgroup. Being unmoderated it allows more flexibility in discussions and topics, but the down side is that it does not stop bullying, intimidation and plain simple bad manners from a very few listers, especially to newcomers who are simply learning and still feeling their way on unfamiliar ground. Pressing the delete button is always an option, but that should not be necessary in an adult world with people sharing a common hobby and interest. It is for this reason I have rarely sent email to any unmoderated list and have preferred to assist whenever and whoever I can, privately and offlist and will continue to do so. I will reiterate one thing I said in my previous email...I do not normally reply to an email that does not provide a name or locality. After this experience, I stand by that now more than ever before. Once again, my sincere apologies if I have offended anyone. 'Bye for now, Lynne ====================================== Lynne Fiddick Central Coast, NSW, AUSTRALIA ======================================
Hello Jen I did not see the original post you sent to the list to ask for assistance and I mistakenly thought I was replying to a thread about names and signatures on email. I apologise to you for not replying to your enquiry, but I see someone else now has. and I hope that reply was helpful for you. I also apologise for your intro to the mail list and assure you it is usually much more "user friendly". Good luck with your research, Lynne =============================== Lynne Fiddick Central Coast, NSW, AUSTRALIA ===============================
Hayley, NSW BDM lists a death for a James McNEILL (with a double "L") in 1878 - death registered Sydney, parents Abraham/Mary, reg no 2011. Could this be the missing James ? You mentioned you looked up the Rookwood Necropolis website and asked if there was another cemetery in Rookwood. No, only one cemetery at Rookwood - it's huge and the various denominations have their own websites. Anglican and general section (have recently put online their search facility) http://www.rookwoodcemetery.com.au/ Independent section (covers Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, Salvation Army, Lutheran, etc) http://www.rookwoodindependent.com.au/index.aspx Jewish section http://www.rookwoodjewishcemetery.com.au/ Roman Catholic http://www.catholiccemeteries.org.au/ These sites should give all burials at Rookwood - the CD only lists burials where there are headstones. Cremations aren't covered at all (but these are much later than dates you're interested in) HTH Alison :-) Sydney Oz ---------------- Hayley wrote: > Hi All. > > I took a trip to my state library today to research my gggrandparents graves > (John Marshall & Mary Marshall (nee Forsyth). Dear Listers, I have been researching the Sutton family for quite some time. The above lady died when her daughter Katie Jean was only 4 days old.Katie L.L.B Sutton married James Thomson Gray 16 march 1903. Katie Jean was born 1912. I have found out that Katie Jean was adopted out to Crosby Hunter and his wife Mary Ann nee Weber. If there is any family member out there I would love to make a connection. Also can any one tell me how I can put the adoption into Family Tree Maker apart from making notes in the notes section. Katie Jean Gray was born at Portland. Katie Lucy Lloyd Barnes Sutton died Portland and is buried at Wallerawang. Many thanks in advance, Regards Elaine

Hi Jen This List shouldhelp each other and especially new Listers. I cannot reply other than through the above address and not the newsgroup. So, the thread will not flow on. I have found your family an Ancestry, there are many Trees: Alma Marie Martha Rossau Birth: 1881 - Germany Death: 1969 - Victoria, Australia Marriage: 1904 - Australia Spouse: Charles William Smith Father: Carl Wilhelm Adolph Rossau Mother: Henrietta Marie Augusta Gunsman Charles William Smith Birth 17 jul 1870 a.. in Sarah Ann street, Sydney, NSW b.. Death 11 jan 1955 in North Fitzroy, It mentions all the children. Three from first marriage and five from the second. I will compile the info for you, but will be away for a few days, so I wont be until next week. Hope this of some help, Jen. Cheers Joanne Wyee NSW
You can get them for free by getting a member's card online fron the National Library of Australia. The card arrives by mail very quickly and then you can use it to access of all sorts of things. They used to provide access to British Origins, but unfortunately Origins objected, and they had to limit access to a live visit. Hi All. I took a trip to my state library today to research my gggrandparents graves (John Marshall & Mary Marshall (nee Forsyth). They were buried in a Family Vault Devonshire Cemetery. After looking up records in the Johnston & Sainty burial ground register, found 4 others that I did not know were buried in the vault. (Exhumation Permit was issued to their daughter) 3 of the 4 I have in my tree. However there is a James McNeil death 1878 of Wahroonga also listed (no age). This name did not ring any bells so I came home to research him. But there are no deaths for that year. Did his death simply not get registered??? So then I thought I would do a look up at Rookwood. Nothing!!! Not even my ggggrandparents are listed there but are listed on my Rookwood Cemetery disc. However no others that were in the Vault are listed on the disc. Why is this?? (PS also looked up the Rookwood Necropolis site) Is there another cemetery in Rookwood?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks Hayley
