    3. Hi List, Would anyone be able to help fill in the blank words that I could not read on my convict ancestor's headstone that I found on a recent trip to Tasmania dated 1819? I thought someone may have had the same Inscription on an old headstone. "A husband kind and tender dear, A loving father now be here, Left wife and children for to weep. Life be in death ........ to sleep. (1 word missing) Weep not for me but be content, I was not yours but only lent, Wipe of those tears ......... ................. .................. ( 3 word missing) ........ ............... ............ ................ .............. ................ ............ (last line, 7 missing words) Many thanks, Margaret McCulloch, Townsville, Qld. magsdags@internode.on.net

    1. Please can you help? DLS Revesby, NSW: 50 years jubilee 2010
    2. Tony Moore
    3. Dear Friends, I really need your help, and it's painless ! Would please help me spread the word far and wide so we can make contact and encourage feedback, anecdotes, trivia, and historical contributions to make the our celebrations a resounding success.. . My old school De La Salle College, Revesby Heights, NSW, celebrates its first 50 years jubilee, next year, 2010. . On behalf of the jubilee committee we desperately need contributions of all sorts of memorabilia to enhance the celebrations . Do you know anyone who may have links to the school ? I am trying to get the word out to all former students, all parents & grandparents of former students, former teachers and staff, and any one who may have an interest in any form. . The suggestions for contibutions are open ended, some items could be: ** Group or class photos, (particularly the era 1960 -1968 where there doesn't seem to be known class photos available). ** Pennants / trophies / shields from any era for display ** Old exercise books / assignments / projects particularly if dated and initialled by a staff member. ** Old report cards 1960 - 1980 or thereabouts. ** Early copies of the school weekly notices "The Bulletin" ** Newspaper clippings or references to these items or events. "The Torch" local newspaper has archives after only after 1963 if you know of a specific item or date items hopefully can be found. ** Old uniform components e.g safari jacket, cap (primary), felt hat(secondary) or hat band, suit coat or jacket, or cloth pocket badge; various sports singlets or football jumpers, track suits, etc ** Home movies (8mm?) or home video (probably B&W) of events.. could be copied and returned. ** Action Photos of sports teams / band / debating / other ** Audio tapes of events ** The school brass band may have led an ANZAC parade or similar where a TV station may have made a film. A reasonably accurate date is needed to see if such an archival item exists. ** Other assorted memorabilia ......................... My personal contribution so far has been to make digital copies available to the school of the early annual "La Salle Collegian" So far 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970. and more to come (slowly) ** My own memory suggests there may have been a 1961 edition but only typed & duplicated not formally printed but nothing is known or forthcoming so far. ....................................... We would **really** like to put together a collection of oral stories and memories too. The format could be written or typed, but with modern technology, recorded orally, depending on your willingness to share. Distance is no object!!! The school web site is at:..... http://dlsrevesby.catholic.edu.au/ There is a DLS Revesby discussion site if you want to share or post messages at:............ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DLS-Revesby/ The school hasn't moved in recent years, just the front gate, with its snail mail address now is De La Salle College Revesby, 9 Ferndale Rd, Revesby Heights 2212 NSW Please feel free to copy and post this message to other Australian mailing lists so the word will spread. Please contact either the school or myself if you have items to share. If you need an urgent answer during December or January (school holidays) please contact me direct. This search function has now been broken for quite a while. One wonders if it was a US search function whether it would remain broken for the same time period. -- Bob

    3. Lynece, this is going back a while, but can you tell us what the asterisks against some dates stand for? The National Library of Australia has a useful guide to electoral rolls and what years are available at http://www.nla.gov.au/app/eresources/item/1881. It appears that the Ancestry databases include only some of those that are available at the National Library (and, presumably, at the relevant state libraries). 3. Hi Zanthia1967 Divorce was a state matter until the Commonwealth took over in about 1976. See http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/ Index to Tasmanian Divorces 1861-1920 This is an index to records relating to petitions for divorce under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1860, that were heard in the Tasmanian Supreme Court. The Archives Office holds records relating to these cases (SC89), which vary from a few to many pages of documents, but has indexed them only up to the above date. There are about 450 records arranged by petitioner's surname. It sounds like the Supreme Court has transferred all its files to the Archives Office but a quick call to Archives would be the best way to find out. cheers Jenny "zanthia1967" <zanthia1967@yahoo.com.au> wrote in message news:497d2d2b-adcb-40a3-ba24-e993bb151916@o31g2000vbi.googlegroups.com... > Where would be the best place to find Tasmanian divorce information > for an event between 1955-1965? 1. RESEARCHING OLD HOUSES (ex Re: old deeds Off Topic)
    2. George & Valerie Wotton
    3. Katherine, you can research your house's history through your local Council. They usually give access to files and you can see a list of all the owners and when the houses were sold. As it was an old house in Surry Hills then the Old Systems Title applied (before Torrens Title) so you will be in luck. Also if you don't want to do this research yourself then your local historical society usually has someone who is a member who is expert at this sort of thing and they will do it for you (nice to offer a donation to the society!). Prior to about 1919 most houses in Sydney had a house name before numbering of houses. I had my local historian research my house to uncover the original name of the house and then had a plaque made. Coincidentally our house had the same name as the house my husband had grown up in. That was a nice coincidence and caused much excitement!
