    3. Dear Joe, On the 1903 electoral roll, all those with with the surname GEARD appear on the TASMANIA electoral Roll. None in NSW. There is no listing for an Arthur Augustine. Arthur Augustine may have some connection with the other ARTHURs that served in WW2 and were born in Zeehan, Tasmania http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/ http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm >From the NSW bdm register the following marriages are shown Registration Number Groom's Surname Groom's Given Name(s) Bride's Last Name at Time of Marriage Bride's Given Name(s) District 5150/1913 GEARD ARTHUR A KANE VIOLET E REDFERN 13759/1913 GEARD WALTER L SYKES MAY V ASHFIELD 6544/1955 GEARD RAYMOND GEORGE CHAPLIN AUDREY HILMA COOMA There is no death registered for him in NSW up to 1979 He may have died in another state or after 1979 The earliest GEARDs births registered in NSW were in 1853 ... church records before state records started http://www.ryersonindex.org/ The Ryerson index shows many GEARDs but no Arthur Augustine. This simply means his death was not shown in the newspapers that have been transcribed. Not all deaths are published in newspapers http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/family-history-research.htm There is no death record for him in Queensland to 1964 You will now have to start searching old phone books and electoral rolls. Unfortunately the early rolls are not alphabetical I hope the above serves as some kind of starting point for you. 3. Hi all, Arthur Augustine Geard was apparently a acrobat at some time and changed his name to Arthur Augustine St Clair. He married Violet Evelyn Kane in 1913 - his marriage certificate shows that his father was Herbert Geard but no mother was listed! WWI records in the National Archives under St Clair states he was born in Melbourne - no birth records exist! We have both Arthur and Violet's death certificates- Arthur died in 1934 and Violet in 1932.... both state buried at Rookwood. They had 7 children, one of which is my mum's father. We are trying to find out any information on Arthur as he appears to be a mystery! We found a lot of information on Rootsweb - mainly relating to my mum's first marriage! TIA Joe

    2. I also endorse everyone's comments about the GRo -  an excellent service, the turn around is really something! They have another little option - parent checks that you can put in if you aren't sure you have the right person, but you know who their parents were.  If you tick this option, the GRO will check first and IF the certificate you are requesting isn't the right person, they will let you know and only charge you £5 for checking the parents, and  you won't collect unwanted certificates that don't belong to your family.   Cheers Angie On Sun 10/01/10 05:02 , "billannieliam" billannieliam@ozemail.com.au sent: Happy New Year Genanz I seem to remember quite a while ago an organization where a UK marriage certificate could be ordered and paid for in Australian dollars?? 3. Dear Annie, On the Lancashire genealogy mailing list there is an Antony Lambert who offers the service using your local cheque for those who did not have the option to use either a credit card or debit card. I notice Antony now offers a far simpler service via Paypal which is Ebay. Ebay Australia has offices in North Sydney which would simplify matters with your local Australia cheque to avoid the $10++ international bank cheque charge I have not done money transfer using Western Union at your local post office but I suspect there are international charges applying also. Details of what you do are on http://www.c5d.co.uk/ and there is a currency converter on that page. 3. Annie, You can order them direct from the GRO itself online and pay by credit card - as you know UK certificates are £7. Here's the URL http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ I've heard there are some commercial companies which offer the facility to order UK certificates but they apparently add on charges of their own, so not a good option. Saves lots of $$$$ and the turn around time is about two weeks. Some times it is a little quicker. Why pay commercial organizations to do what you can do on the Net in a matter of minutes. I did phone them direct once and order over the phone, as I was not sure of the security of my Visa. I don't know if you can still do this, internet's a lot easier and have no problem. Ray

    3. Hi Mags, I have some information from the book "From Chains to Freedom, the Bellett linkage plus the Kidner family, 1788-1988" by Thais Mason (who died last year). Her information is slightly different from what you have below (I didn't see your original message). She has Jacob Bellett, transported aboard the Scarborough (a second volume gives the ship as the Lady Penrhyn) in First Fleet, born Shoreditch London 1765, died Tasmania 2/12/1813, married 1794 Norfolk Island to Ann Harper (Harpur), transported Lady Juliana in 2nd Fleet, born Bristol England 1772, died Tasmania 10/9/1842. There is no mention of a second marriage for Ann, but then, Thais was mainly interested in the Bellett line.
