    3. Hi everyone Have just subscribed to great new magazine 'Inside History' - which contain lots of wonderful articles. In the Nov-Dec edition there is an article about the above Registers written by Megan Gibson. Nine volumes - now with index - from 1794 to 1824 - apparently not just land transactions but 'was the first place that people of the new colony were able to officially record their legal transactions' On DVD - the sales are going towards preservation of the Registers - wondering if you know about this long lost source of information. May have to buy myself a Christmas present! Regards Vicki Smith Geelong

Death records usually cut out about 1950, and are available only to the family. Frederick may very well be one of those. I note that Angie couldn't find him. She would have checked the Ryerson Index (I did too) but its Victorian entries started later than NSW. He is in about half a dozen family trees on Ancestry.com, but the most recent one (2011) gives no marriage and no death. I looked at Ancestry.com's electoral rolls, but he wasn't in the early pages. There is a mention of him at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,539307.10.html Doug. --- Posted via news://freenews.netfront.net/ - Complaints to [email protected] ---

    3. Hi, It looks likely that Frederick died at a young age - the Victorian births deaths marriages index contain this record: The death, in 1894 (probably early in the year?) of Frederick Lockland, aged 7 months, father George, mother Mary Rigby, at Hotham East, registration number: 2186. Frederick's early death tends to be supported by the lack of any mention of him in the ancestry databases. cheers On 3/11/2011 2:46 PM, M.& D. 3. According to this map of India, Kurnaul is in the state of Haryana, north/west India http://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/india/india-political-map.htm Looking at the map, you see West Bengal and the state of Haryana are a long way from each other, yet Jhossee was, supposedly, near Kurnaul according to the report in the following There is an entry in Google Books "The Asiatic Journal etc" recording a Death at Jhossee near Kurnaul http://books.google.com.au/books?id=uSsYAAAAYAAJ&pg=RA1-PA257&lpg=RA1-PA257&dq=jhossee+in+india&source=bl&ots=IFYGM2xhP2&sig=X1WwTH6fNvRfLnHIx_trUciXRP4&hl=en&ei=4hyyTpfgEaPRmAWQjpGlAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&sqi=2&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAw#v=onepage&q&f=false Sorry I can't help with a modern name but looking towards the state of Haryana might help. Perhaps those who wrote the reports did the best they could with place names and just got it wrong. As a matter of interest, I put the name Jhossee/Ghossee into TNA, Asia, Pacific and Africa collection and didn't get a nibble. 3. Dear listers, I have a gentleman who had joined the NSW military 1878-1883. He then joined the police force 1883-1884 then joined the NSW artillery as a gunner 1884-1899. His step son was admitted to the School Ship Vernon in 1887. The step father was John Joseph West and his step son was Henry Malcolm Rogers. We know John Joseph paid 2/6 per week for the boy to be on the Vernon. We are wondering if any one can tell us where we may find out what wages John Joseph would have been on to be able to afford the 2/6 per week. Hoping some one may be able help us, Regards Elaine

    3. Some years ago now, the NSW Land Titles Office in Macquarie street held Deeds Cases containing old deeds to property. I recall the guide telling of a researcher opening one case and finding an old 1820s picture of his rural property painted, signed, dated and then stored away as a link in the unbroken chain of evidence proving title to his land. 3. Hi Dianna, You don't give enough information to state with any certainty - if this was part of the probate papers it would generally indicate that a mortgage or a title has been officially transferred or discharged as part of the distribution of the assets / debts. You don't say if the date is after Michael died and/or after probate was granted. Regards ......
