But I doubt whether there is such a 'by-law' which would be a local regulation made by a Council rather than some State-wide legislation. Anyway, you could try FOI: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/giaa2009368/ I've found Councils generally quite helpful, but bear in mind that most records are written (accessible at Council offices) and many have been lost or destroyed over the years. ___________________ Graeme Challinor
Hi Marg Of course you're right, it was remiss of me not to include some dates. Jack Sejer CHRISTENSEN was born in WA in 1921. He was the son of Anna HANSEN and Martin CHRISTENSEN, who married in WA in 1915. Jacob HANSEN was Anna's brother and I know all about him (he was my grandfather). The mystery is the family of Anna, who I believe are all in WA. Anna travelled to Australia from Denmark in approx. 1910-1914 and she lost contact with Jacob after that and I'm trying to re-establish contact between the two families. Hi I'm looking to make contact with descendants of Jack Sejer CHRISTENSEN, born in WA. I believe Jack was the son of Martin CHRISTENSEN and Anna HANSEN, and Anna was my grandfather Jacob's younger sister. The HANSENs emigrated from Denmark and Anna lived in WA, where her siblings Hans and Maren (aka Mary) also lived. Jacob ended up in NSW and the families lost contact with each other. Regards Pete
I've just sent off a response - which wasn't intended to insult Pat in any way - Pat has been a long time participant - helping when able and asking for help when the need arises .. and I thought a little more about it - and the answer to Pat's query: "Has anyone found a means of finding parents names under such circumstances" and I realised the answer is NO there is no single means - sometimes good luck is the answer - perhaps burial records show that another person shares the plot - and the name of that person contains the answer? Anyhow - if I seemed a little abrupt with Pat - it was not my attention - I was just a little surpirsed by the nature of the question cheers robert On 15/11/2011 11:12 PM, Pat Wade wrote: > Hi, > > I have via electoral rolls and burial information > located a couple (grand parents of a friend) > > I know that they were both born in 1928 which is > too late for the births CD and their marriage > would have been around 1948/9 again too late for > the CD. > > Has anyone found a means of finding parents names > under such circumstances - is there any other > resource that can be used? > > I have the husband on the electoral rolls in 1949 > - which would be the first one he could be on and > he is alone. Some time ago there was a message posted regarding the by-law to cemeteries NSW (I think) requiring controlling coulcils to make records available. Can some one point me to where I would be able to read this by-law
Hmm, grandparents of a friend - and they were born in the late 1920s? I'm guessing the friend's parents may be still alive? In which case - where is the problem? Can't the parents supply the maiden names of their parents? Surely the mother knows her mum's maiden name? And if the parents aren't living and their demise was some time ago - don't the death indexes carry the maiden names? Sometimes it is necessary to purchase a certificate - maybe your friend can buy the birth certificate of the mother or father - the certificate should contain the full names of the parents - including maiden names - and the last time I checked - the certs at about $20 were pretty cheap.. This is how it actually works - the friend is quite legally entitled to acquire a copy of his/her own birth certificate and quite probably a copy of the parent's marriage certificate - and usually a copy of the parents' birth certificates and a copy of the parents' parents' marriage cert. - it may be a little time consuming and perhaps involve some costs - but it works - or it does in Victoria, Australia. The best way of carrying out family history research is by starting with living people and working backwards - I knew my grandmothers' maiden names when they were still alive - my parents had uncles or aunts with different surnames .. Anyhow - how about just posting the names here - you never know - somebody may come up with something - and the grandparents may have had siblings who left a better paper trail? good luck robert from Melbourne. Hi Vicki, That was my request and here are the replies - it was on the soc.genealogy.britain newsgroup on 26 October. There is a central BMD system called Genlias www.genlias.nl/ . It has a "click here for english" button - don't know how extensive that section is. Then there's the Central Bureau for Genealogy in the Hague http://www.cbg.nl/. I did a fair amount of their translations a while back, so I know they have an english section. Very helpful people. Their "links" section is also very useful. The equivalent to our Parish records tend to be scattered across the landscape and availablility is patchy - some areas (eg Delft) are superb. Others are not yet on line. Lesley Robertson Another very good starting point is geneaknowhow.net (also has english section) as there links are collected to all sources via either internet or CD / DVD productions. Richard Hello Di, As stated before Genlias.nl and CBG.nl are 2 very good websites for Dutch Genealogy. Also variable Dutch Genealogy webpages providing links. Googlebooks and archive.org contain books with genealogical information and pedigrees of dutch families. They may also want to search Family Surname websites that may already have the information they are looking for. If they need some assistance I can take a look at no charge. I can be contacted at [armando348 + @yahoo.com] Armando Framarini Cheers, Di Maloney "Vicki Smith" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > if possible. > > > Thanks > Vicki

Hi, I have via electoral rolls and burial information located a couple (grand parents of a friend) I know that they were both born in 1928 which is too late for the births CD and their marriage would have been around 1948/9 again too late for the CD. Has anyone found a means of finding parents names under such circumstances - is there any other resource that can be used? I have the husband on the electoral rolls in 1949 - which would be the first one he could be on and he is alone. I have not found his wifes maiden name as yet so only have her with him. Unfortunately he does not appear to have had his parents with him from 1949 to 1980. I have also checked the "Herald Sun Tribute page" and found one entry in the sun in 2002 but unfortunately that only had family coming forward not his parents. And I have tried "Trove". Thank you for any suggestions. Regards Pat
