    3. Thanks Susie. The family trees have various suggestions for the place of death. He is supposed to have been buried at Pyalong, which has associations with the widow and her next husband. 3. I don't know where I got the idea, but I thought that Tipperary was in Ulster! All the wartime songs about it somehow gave me that impression. I thought that there would have to be an inquest. Thanks for the info, Kate. I have a man in New Zealand who was supposedly killed with a beer bottle, and the police weren't particularly interested. The evidence about his personality is conflicting. 3. This might be a bit off topic and if so I apologise if it is. I have a collection of books, family histories, records, Birth death & marriage Cd's, BDM's on micro film, NSW Probate records to 1982, Census records , Cemetary Transcripts on CD and hard copy books, NSW 1828 Census in Hard copy and on CD and other genealogical infomation, mostly NSW, Carcoar & Cowra regions, SA bdm's, Vic BDM's, etc . Also burial records for Waverley, Rookwood and a couple others on CD, that I wish to sell . Also have a fully functioning Micro Fiche reader as well for sale. IS there a news group or place that I could advertise these items for sale. I live in WA, but would be willing to post out items with postage added to cost. I will be making a comprehensive list with prices over the next few days and need to know where the best place would be to post the list. Thanks, any suggestions very much appreciated/ Cheryl

    3. >From The Canberra Times, 21 January 1936 - GAMES IN HOTELS IMPORTANT CASE IN SYDNEY No Fine Imposed SYDNEY, Monday. An important case of interest to hotel keepers was heard by the Chief Licensing Magistrate (Mr. Laidlaw) to-day, when the police proceeded against Ellen Ahearn, the licensee of Surrey Hotel, Castlereagh Street, on information alleging that she permitted gaming on the premises. The defendant through her counsel pleaded guilty. Evidence was given that a number of men were playing on a pin machine in the hotel for pennies and shillings, the winner buying the drinks. The Police Prosecutor said that the proceedings were in the nature of a warning. Mr. Laidlaw: I take it that if there was no gambling on the machine it would not be illegal. The Magistrate dismissed the case and ordered the defendant to pay costs. ------------------------------------------------ Historic Australian Newspapers, 1803 to 1954 http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper Aherns in Australian Records http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~aherns/ahcrim.htm ------------------------------------------------

    2. Tony Moore
    3. Dear Lina, If M.E.M. Robinson died in Paris, and was recorded as a consular death, one then presumes a logical conclusion that he was a member of the Embassy or Ambassadorial staff. He would be, presumably, well known to the embassy staff of that time. Sometimes a private citizen, business person, or someone of outstanding merit acts as " liaison in charge of Affairs" for Australia in a foreign country but not resident in the same city as the embassy. Perhaps he was resident in some other part of France. Perhaps he was a senior citizen or retired, but because of his earlier status (RAMC) or work he could still act as a "consul" while enjoying his retirement. Whatever his status was, he was obviously known to the embassy staff of that time. May I suggest you initially contact the Australian Embassy in Paris to see if any part of the above is true. On this page is the e-mail, phone and fax contact: http://www.france.embassy.gov.au/pari/consular.html If you cannot get a satisfactory answer from Paris, then contact: either http://www.dfat.gov.au/contacts.html (Canberra) or http://www.dfat.gov.au/sydney/index.html (Sydney) Cheers, Tony Moore (Castle Hill, NSW) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ On 26 Feb 2012 at 18:25, [email protected] wrote: From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Date sent: Sun, 26 Feb 2012 18:25:31 +1100 Subject: Consular Deaths Paris 1953 lookup pls > > Hi > > If someone died in 1953 in Paris and his death is listed as Consular Death, how do I find out more? > > Dr Matthew Edward McEwan ROBINSON served with RAMC in 1915-16. 3. Dear List, We are holding a family reunion in June and over the years have been unable to locate one whole line of my gggrandfathers descendants.I wonder if anyone on this list may know anything of this family..as follows. My GGGrandparents were ..William Smith who married Charlotte Fletcher in 1856 in Castlemaine before moving to Sarsfield in East Gippsland. Their daughter Eliza Louisa was born in 1862 in Bruthen Victoria. She married John Charles Ward who was born in 1855 in Fryers Creek. They married in 1881.They had the following children all born in the Bruthen/Bairnsdale area .John Daniel b 1883,Ellen Louisa b 1886, Eliza Temperence b 1888, David William b 1891, Anne Matilda b 1894, Charlotte Margaret b 1897 and Albert Charles b 1900.They all then appear to have moved to Melbourne where we have found Annie marrying William Jones in 1912.They had Frederick Ward Jones in 1912 and Agnus Louisa Jones in 1913.We think Frederick married Rita Dorothea Theile in 1934 and she died in 2001 .They had 2 children that we know of who are probably still living. Agnus Jones married George Thomas Glanville in 1938 and he died in 1974 in Heidleburg Victoria. We think they had at least 1 son who could still be living however we found his wife dying in Bacchus Marsh in 1980. If any of this rings a bell with anyone on the list I would be pleased to hear from you as we would love to have someone from this line at our reunion.
