If you want to join the new group, which operates like a mailing list, but, apparently better than the Rootsweb mailing lists, click on the "Join this group" button on that web page, or, send a blank email message to ANZ-genealogy+subscribe@groups.io making sure that you use that complete email address, as copying and pasting it, may miss some of the email address. If you do join the group, upon receiving your confirmation of membership message (not the request for confirmation, to which, you need to reply, to confirm your membership, but, the message that you should receive, after you have replied to that message), please post an introductory message to the group, stating your interests, and, any queries. Hello list members, Over the past week, only two members posted to the list or to me, expressing their wishes that the list be continued. No-where near enough for me to consider transferring the list to another server. So I will let the list die. Anyone has the option of creating a similar list elsewhere, but I suspect there is no interest out there. Sorry for the bad news, especially as this one of the earliest and also was the largest Australian list. There are now many other lists on other servers covering a similar focus, many with over a thousand members. Times have changed and Rootsweb's year+ long outage didn't help. Good luck with your research in the future. Peter
Hello Peter, It would be terrible if this particular list closed. For me it was the epitome of learning how to do everything related with Family Research. I remember the days when the flaming would occur....wow. If you are going to continue and start a group on Groups io I would be happy to join. Mary
I hope it doesn’t come to pass > On 14 Jan 2020, at 8:15 pm, "genanz-request@rootsweb.com" <genanz-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Send GENANZ mailing list submissions to genanz@rootsweb.com > > To subscribe via email send a message with subject subscribe and body > subscribe to genanz-request@rootsweb.com > > To unsubscribe via email send a message with subject unsubscribe and > body unsubscribe to genanz-request@rootsweb.com > > You can reach the person managing the list at > genanz-owner@rootsweb.com > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of GENANZ digest..."Today's Topics: > > 1. Peter, I'd wait a while and see how many people reply to your post. That will provide a clue as to how many members really are interested in the continuation of this list, in whatever form. David Cuff
Hello list members of the GEN-ANZ mailing list. On 7 January, 2020, RW (RootsWeb) notified all list owners that all RW mailing lists will be discontinued on 2 March 2002. Here is a copy of that email. ----------------------------------------------------- "Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team" ------------------------------------------------------- What the above means is that all RW list will be completely and permanently closed from 2nd March, although the archives will still be available (but for how long?). *The options available are:-* 1. Do nothing and let the list be closed. 2. Move the list to another mailing list provider (there are valid options on a par with, or maybe even better than, Rootsweb) and continue on. *To be considered:-* - There are about 350 subscribers currently on this list (some of these may be inactive). That's a lot of members. - There were only 5 posts/replies to the list in 2019, which is pitifully poor considering the number of members. So, some 350 members found nothing of interest to say. *Where to from here?* In the next week, I would be interested to hear the thoughts of the members, to give me guidance. So please post your thoughts and queries to the list. Keep in mind that we only have 6 weeks to do whatever we are doing. Peter GEN-ANZ admin

Hi, I have only just discovered I am related to Piraurau, also known as Sarah White, who married Captain Thomas White. I would love to make contact. My father was Peter Kilmore, son of Mary Kilmore, daughter of James Innes, who was the son of Sarah White, who was the daughter of Thomas and Piraurau. Karina Kilmore-Barrymore Melbourne Australia
That Eureka Moment!! Its only taken 30 years but finally found two documents that give me two sons of Irish rebell James Sheedy Macnamara. And helps to unlink one son wrongly attributed to him by a family historian in the 1960's. Two more to go for this one, I have been collecting Sheedys worldwide for thirty years and began putting them in a family tree system. When I started I was told there was only a handful of Sheedys in Ireland in the 1830s and 1840's. I have over 6000 so far (Sheedy, Sheady, Sheedy-Macnamara, Sheedy-Mack etc, and also Silk). The Sheedys could and did use all the various alias of their names as they wished, but there were specific heads of clans that would represent them in their regions. https://jfawcettblog.com/2019/09/01/my-fathers-son-danny-boy-at-last/ <https://jfawcettblog.com/2019/09/01/my-fathers-son-danny-boy-at-last/> cheers from Jenny
Hi Carol, I am not sure if we are related but I have quite a number of similar matches to your information posted here. My information is as follows Henry Rudkin (convict) was sent to Australia in 1837. He worked for the Australian Agricultural Company and when he received his Ticket of Leave he settled in the Gloucester (Berrico Creek) area of New South Wales where he and his family lived. Henry married Ellen Stokes (1830 – 1892) and they had the following children George (1847 – 1850) Joshua George (1851 - ) Lester William ( 1854 – 1862) Alice Mary (1857 – 1931) John Henry (1860 – 1933) William Charles (1862 – 1938) Francis Edwin (1864 – 1921) John Henry had six children and his youngest child Florence Margaret Rudkin (22.6.1895 – 29.11.1958) married a William Thomas Payne (1893 - ) They moved to New Zealand in the Wanganui area. Margaret and William had two children William Leonard Payne (29.10.1922 – 30.10.1998) James Thomas Payne (1926 – 2.8.1994) at Wanganui Hospital. My family line is Henry Rudkin – William Charles Rudkin – Charles Herbert Stephen Rudkin – Herbert Fraser Rudkin (Grandfather) – Helen Rudkin (Mother) – me (Debra Ellis) There are also Gilkerson’s in the family line. Anyway please check this out and if we are related that will be great. Hope this reaches you well. Thanks again Debra Ellis (possible relative) Sent from Mail for Windows 10
Someone was asking about Florence House at Collaroy at this site: https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/genanz@rootsweb.com/thread/210033 6/ Florence House was built by the Salvation Army in 1912-13 as a home for elderly men who were down on their uppers. It was still there in the late 1960s but was then replaced by a Darby and Joan settlement, also run by the Salvation Army, but that was replaced by what is now called Warringah Place, a retirement village that is still run by the Salvation Army. Florence House was at 1041 Pittwater Rd, Collaroy. John Morcombe
I will try this way as email bounced. From: Charles Wilton [mailto:charleswilton@bigpond.com] Sent: Wednesday, 10 October 2018 4:58 PM To: 'Graeme@greywall.demon.co.uk' Subject: John Henry Pedley Hi Graeme, I don't know if you are at the same address or if this will reach you. I came across a copy of your email I had printed out in 2009 that I thought I had lost. I am friends with one of the sons of Jock (that is what he was known by) and he has given me approval to supply you with his address. It will be snail mail as he is not on computer. Mitchell Pedley is his name. His other brother, Randell, is deceased as per info supplied to you from previous rootsweb users. I apologise for this delay but I thought I had lost the email. Cheers Charlie
Jenny Are you related to Bob and Margaret (nee Pepper) Martin from Canada? Is that the family you are researching? Margaret is my second cousin one time removed. Her father and my grand mother were first cousins. Robin

Greetings Helen I am thoroughly enjoying the bits and bobs of Wellington and surrounding suburbs especially the area of Newtown where we lived for 10 years at the above dairy. Ron and I bought the dairy in 1971 and sold it in 1981. Our 10 years here has some very special memories for us. When we bought the dairy it was called "Dino's" It was given this name about 1968/69 by the previous owners. We continued to keep this name by adding 1971 Ltd to it. "Our" dairy is still operatoing at the present time but known as Arney St Dairy as it is on the corner of Arney and Riddiford Sts. Did you get the info from the book "On the Edge of our City"? Hi Listers, I would appreciate a look up for the parents of Iris Victoria Warren supposedly born in SA in 1885. I cant find anything on SAGHS. Regards Judith
Hi, This may seem a strange family history question but - I know that Daryl Lindsay did a painting of my G Grandfathers farm in Wandin Yallock. The painting I believe was titled "The farm" and at one stage it was on a calendar that my mother had, so I do have a damaged water stained sample of this art work but would really love to get a better "photo" of it. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could track this down? I have tried googling under artist, and name and even been through numerous art books and art auction books but to no avail as yet. Thank you Pat
