My great grandfather's oldest sister, Cora Miley, married an older man by the name of John Mandlin in Buffington, Stoddard County, Missouri on 26 November 1893. Sometime before 1912, Cora and her two children (names unknown) disappeared suddenly. Cora was estranged from her husband and was living with my great grandfather in Stoddard County. One day he came home from work and Cora and the children were gone. Lunch dishes were still on the table and Cora's clothing and possessions remained in the house. My great grandfather always believed that John Mandlin had taken the family away and killed them all. He searched for Cora and the children until his death in the 1940's, but was never able to find any trace. They were not on the Missouri census in 1900, 1910, or 1920. The only John Mandlin in Missouri I have been able to find was in another part of the state, had a wife by a different name and a "daughter" named Cora who was much older than the two younger children enumerated with him.
