    3. A dear friend of mine has quite a mystery in her family tree that we would all love to see solved. Her mother grew up as a foster child in the household of Tom and Donie Barber in Oklahoma. The story her mother had always heard was that her birth mother and father had come through southern Oklahoma (apparently around the township of Lula, which I believe is in the vicinity of Coal county), perhaps as sharecroppers. The father whose name is believed to be some variation of the name Charlie/Charley McIntire/McIntyre was reportedly a sharecropper and had left his wife and young baby to go to Texas to do some sharecropping but he never returned. In the meantime, the mother of the child died. Her name name have been Mary (Barnes) McIntire or possibly Lula. She would have died sometime about 1910 - 1915 presumably. Upon her death Tom and Donie Barber took in the baby and raised the child as a foster child. The child was named Evelyn McIntire/McIntyre. Evelyn was born sometime between 1908 and 1912. The Barber family did move from the SW Oklahoma area where they hooked up with Eveylyn over to the Rush Springs-Chickasha area (around Grady County) where they ultimately settled. All attempts to find information on any of these individuals has failed. We don't know if Charlie McIntire truly went to Texas to sharecrop and if something happened to him or if he abandoned his family and/or took on a new identity. We would also love to learn more about Tom and Donie Barber, their history and where they are buried which presumably would be somewhere in central Oklahoma. Andie astringf@msn.com
