Delilah: You have been so wonderful about helping me with my queries. However, I have just noticed that I failed to make clear where they were during the Rev. War. They were in Effingham/Screven (maybe Pulaski, too) Counties, in GA. The name Caleb was for the father, born in about 1708, Anson Co., NC, possibly too old to actually participate in the Rev. War. However, he could have attained Patriot status. He and his family left Anson Co., NC in the mid 1700s, and settled in SC, and then the Screven Co. area. He had a son, Caleb Howell, Jr., listed in Bockstrock's DAR Patriots, as were sons Daniel, and Philip. All were listed as officers. His son, Thomas, was in Effingham in 1764, when his own son..Philip..was baptised. Thomas should have been in the Rev. War,in either S.C. or GA. However, I have been unable to document his service..or as one of the Thomas' listed. Thomas' son Philip, reached adulthood in Screven Co., and surrounding area, received land grants/bounties. He seems to have always been close to his uncle, Caleb, Jr. In 1810, Philip and family left that area, on passport from the Gov. of GA. They entered the area that is now Pascagoula, MS. Obviously, Caleb is a very common Howell name. However, I cannot document any connection to any Howells north of Anson Co., NC. I know of three Calebs in our family since this Caleb, Jr. My hope is to find someone who has received DAR recognition as an ancestor of Caleb, or Caleb, Jr. preferably. However, I would also like to know if anyone is listed for his brothers Daniel or Philip. Please know that I appreciate anything you can locate through your resources. Victoria
