    1. Great Grandmother
    2. My great grandmother is a mystery. She was from somewhere in eastern europe around the 1850's. The story was that her father was killed in a pogram and her mother decided to get her children to a better place. My great gandmother and her 3 brothers and her mother came over on a sailing ship headed to New York. They were caught in a hurricane and lost at sea for 2 weeks. The privation was too much for her mother who died from it. They ended up in South Carolina (maybe North) Her brothers were older and the authorities sent them on their way (presumably New York) they decided she was too young and put her in a Baptist orphange. The next I know of her she was in Omaha Nebraska after the Civil War. She was working for the Union Pacific RR where she met my great grandfather. They married and went back east. I know she lived in Philadelphia Pa in the early part of the 20th century perhaps up to the 1920's. I have always wanted to know more about her. I would like to know where she came from. Her maiden name was Bertha Caleb. I don't know if that was her real last name or if the authorities Americanized it. She married Henry Kramer. Who was from somewhere in Germany. Gloria
