My bigamist maternal grandfather was a Stephan/Steffan W. AMRICH/EMRICH born about 1878. He was living in Detroit by 1913 and married about 1914 to my grandmother Emilie SCHULZ, who was born in West Prussia in 1889. She came to Detroit in 1911, her uncle Henrich BUCHHOLZ and his wife Marie were her sponsors. Stephan's occupation on my mother's birth certificate was listed as a watchman (probably a security guard). This man was supposedly caught up in 1915 or 1916. The police records no longer exist. Would he have been deported for that crime if he was not yet a citizen? On the other hand that would leave his 1st wife & child as burdens to the local authorities. Any ideas? -- Nancy M.
