Hello List, I have been monitoring this list for a while now and have enjoyed the mysteries. I am sending this in, hoping to help my aunt find out some information. My uncle Harry Thompson was born in 1917 to Bradford and Myrtle Thompson in Belton Texas, making 3 children to the couple. They already had 2 boys aged 9 and 1. In 1918 they moved to Durant Oklahoma following Bradfords job with Rock Island Railroad. Sometime in the late summer Myrtle gave birth toa baby girl which they named Myrtle Elizabeth. In October the mother, Myrtle, died of the influenza that was so rampant throughout the world. Bradford buried her in Highland cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. He made arrangements with a couple who they had made friends with to take care of the baby until he could return for her and he took the boys and went on to Chatanooga Tenn with the railroad and also close to his family. For whatever reason it was eight years before he contacted the people to tell them that he wanted to come for his little girl.He received a letter back saying that she had also died when she was six of whooping cough. or maybe something else. Family stories are vauge on cause of her death. The family who kept the baby name was something like Hopper. Could be Holder or something close. This information was just handed down from the memories of the older boys. My aunt and I have walked the Highland cemetery at Durant and havent found a grave for the child. But then the family could have changed her name when he didnt come back for her in a reasonable amount of time, or possibly just couldnt give her up after having her as a member of their family for so long. Or, she really may have died. Can anyone tell me which way to head to solve this mystery? If she is still alive, Myrtle Elizabeth would be 81 yrs old. If not, my Aunt would like to know where she is buried so she could have a marker put there for her. There were six spaces purchased when the mother died, but if the little girl did die they did not bury her beside her mother. If anyone could had any information or ideas where to go from here I would appreciate hearing them. Thanks in advance. Jacque Aylesworth
