My husband and I recently found his biological mom and my father-in-law has found his birth mother and siblings from both her and his father (who is deceased) so I hope I can offer some advice. Many counties (if you were adopted through a county) will do a search either for free or for the costs they incur. My father-in-law found his famiy this way. The county did not charge him anything for it. So checking with the county you were adopted out of may help. For finding my husband's biological mom it was a little easier. His father is his biological dad and when they divorced refused to let my husband's mom have contact with my husband. We at least had a maiden name and her first married name to look for. We started with my husband's maternal grandparents. Both had passed away so we looked for obituarues for them. We found obits for both with my husband's mom, her two sisters and brother listed. Knowing that women can get divorced and remarried and change names I searched on Yahoo! for his uncle and found an e-mail address. It was a little used e-mail address and took his uncle a month to get back to us but he did. My husband talked to his biological mom for the first time on our wedding anniversary this year. I just wanted to share my experiences so that others may benefit. I know for most adoptees there is no information known or in Jo-Ann's case it was not a "legal" adoption so the paperwork is not listed with any county but the suggestions might help someone else.
