    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] 3 LEE Brothers Mystery
    2. psmoot
    3. Good Morning, All! I hope this is appropriate for the list, and apologize in advance if it is not: My name is Patty Smoot. I live in Walker County, Texas. My "mystery" involves 3 LEE brothers, all of them my GGG-Uncles. We have the LEE family Bible proving birth and death dates of the men in question. They are as follows: 1. William Henry LEE b. 10-22-1826 Tuscaloosa, Al. d. 09-24-1864 2. George Hiram LEE b. 02-27-1828 Tuscaloosa, Al. d. 09-21-1864 3. Benjamin James LEE b. 05-19-1830 Tuscaloosa, Al. d. 09-25-1864 As you can see from the death dates above, these 3 men died within 3 days of each other. The LEE family had moved to Southeast Texas (Walker County) in 1853. When I say "family" I am referring to their parents and siblings. The only one of the sons living with the "family" prior to the move was Benjamin James Lee. He is listed in the household on the 1850 census. The 2 older sons are not listed anywhere close to the rest of the family in Tuscaloosa. After the move to Texas, none of the 3 brothers are listed on the 1860 Census with the rest of the family. The death registers, in the family Bible, were obviously written at the same time. The ink, hand-writing and wording provides this clue. The use of the phrase "ano domini" prior to the year 1864 was on all 3 registers, and inversely NOT used on any other family members. This leads me to think that their parents, Elizabeth and Thomas, were informed of the deaths at the same time...perhaps some type of messenger, letter? We had previously thought the 3 brothers died in or because of the Civil War...given the date: September, 1864. We have now discovered the military record of William Henry Lee. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Texas Cavalry...along with 3 youngest brothers (all of which survived long past 1864). Lt. W. H. Lee resigned his military post in 1862..."due to health reasons". Therefore ruling out the Civil War theory. The 3 brothers would have been 38, 36 and 34 years old respectively, when they died. This would rule out any childhood disease. Additionally, there were no outbreaks of epidemics in Walker County, in 1864, that caused widespread death among different households. The only other possibility would be some type of accident? Any suggestions on these 3 brothers would be greatly appreciated. We would really like to know what happened to them! Patty Smoot [email protected]
