HARRY WARDEN KIDD -Left home to go to work in the early 1930's and was never seen again. He left eight children and a wife. It was thought that he left with his mistress who was pregnant. This is family hearsay and not necessarily the gospel. Looking for any information anyone can give on him or where he may have gone. He lived in Youngstown Ohio and went who knows where. Thank You, Vicki Kidd
Hello everyone, I have a 92-year-old family mystery I am trying to solve. In 1904, my great-grandfather, Arthur Lucas Ryan, left his home and family in El Dorado, Kansas, to look for work. Generally, he worked his way south through Oklahoma, and then Texas. He wrote home frequently to let his family know his whereabouts. As time passed, it apparently became more and more difficult for him to write or respond to his wife's letters. On June 22, 1906, he wrote a letter home from the Armstrong Piano Company in Sherman, Texas. He was employed there as a salesman. It was a very discouraging letter in which he noted that his life was a failure, that he wished for her sake his wife had never met him, that he wished he could move his family to Sherman by late August, and that he'd lived away from her as long as he could stand. He also noted in this letter that he'd been too ashamed to write for some time, even though she continued to write to him. He was next heard from on October 1, 1906, in a letter shorter than most. Next to the date were the words "Sherman Texas" but Sherman was crossed out and "Athens" written in above it. The letter said the Armstrong Piano Company had failed, and "I'm on my way to E. Texas to find a good position." He said he would write again in a few days. He was never heard from again. I believe he was in transit when he wrote that last letter. He was a salesman and had a buggy that he used to call on clients. He was probably traveling by buggy or by train. So far, I know the state of Texas does not have a death record for him and he is not found in the 1910 census. I've written to several historical societies and libraries sharing the story and requesting assistance. All those that have responded have found nothing, and some requests are still outstanding. I've obtained a railroad map and passenger train schedule from 1905, and have asked those same societies and libraries for information about train wrecks or fatal incidents on the railroad. My gut instinct is that something happened to him in transit, and he never got where he was going. I think his line in the letter about writing again in a few days meant he would write after arriving and settling at his destination. However, given the gloomy tone of the 6/22 letter, I've wondered whether he committed suicide or just went and started a new life somewhere. I think suicide is the more likely of those two because he was very deeply troubled by the guilt and shame he was feeling. I don't think he could've lived with that in a "new life." But I think suicide is less likely than a fatal incident in transit. I would deeply appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, etc. Bruce Ryan

My Uncle John Henry Harris is listed in all family history as "disappeared foul play suspected". He is listed in GA census in his father's household and in one census in his maternal grandfather's household (Alberry Bruton). Full Name: John Henry Harris Born: 22 June 1877 in Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia Child: One son, Dewey (possibly born out of wedlock) Mother of Child: Ann (or Annie) Richards Parents of John Henry Harris: Elia Sherrill Harris and Sarah Paulina Bruton Harris Circumstances: He left Cumming, GA with the Richards family in his early 20's.He had money from crops just harvested. Was "talk around town" that he headed for Copperhill, Tennessee. He was never heard from again. His mother grieved over this event and family history says she died from "much grief" although she had many other children. This was her first born child. If anyone is descendant of Dewey, please contact me. I hope to someday solve this family unsolved mystery. Thank you, VACPARK@aol.com

I just wanted everyone to know that I have solved my mystery! My grandfather, Frank Hurdle, was believed dead in 1930, however he lived until he was 55! He died in Cambridge, Ohio and is buried near there. It made my uncle very happy to know where his father was buried. He went from mental hospital to mental hospital. Perhaps they were ashamed that he was put into one and that was the reason for the story of his death. I would like to thank everyone for their help and to know that there are answers out there! I've come across a stumper of a mystery and I'm not sure how to go about finding out any more information on this. In researching my maternal family tree of WATERHOLTERS, I discovered a Mr. Christian Stegmerten buried in the WATERHOLTER family plot. The only connection I've been able to find is that he was also born in Germany....which is where the WATERHOLTER family line originated from. This past weekend, I went to the Library of Congress and found the following information in the D.C. City Directory - dated 1892 to 1898: Christopher F. Stegemerten Otilla Stegemerten, widow of Christian Stegemerten Walter Stegemerten William Stegemerten Does anyone else have a clue on who the STEGEMERTEN family were? Thanks! Pat McCoy
My father just recently discovered he has a half-sister that he never knew about. Apparently my Grandfather got a girl pregnant when he was a teenager. The girls parents forced them to marry, took her away to have the baby and then had the marriage ended. The baby, a girl, would have been born in the first half of 1932, probably in Atlanta, GA or somewhere nearby. Her mother was Jenny Blalock. My grandfather's last name is Hunt, so that is probably the surname she used. My grandfather actually met his daughter once and thinks she went by the name Mickie, but we're not sure. It would mean a lot to my father to talk with his half-sister, but we have no idea how to find her. Any help would be appreciated. Jannie
My half-sister's mother disappeared when she was 8 and has not been heard from since. No one seems to know what happened to her. Her maiden name was Rosa Darling and her married name was Rosa Goodwin. Any help appreciated. Phyllis
Who is this woman? She allegedly was born in VA, resided in Nyack, NY, gave birth to a baby girl on 8-29-42 in Middletown, DE, and possibly worked at a company in NJ called Biljac's Sports Wear or Broadway Sac. Please take a look at my web page at http://members.aol.com/bamamama/index.htm. My great grandfather was Charles J. Wagner, b. 1855 Poland/Russia son of Anton and Thecla. Family stories claim Wagner was not the original surname. Charles m. in 1883 in Boston to Annie McDonald. They had one son, Allan John. Allan spent 1900-1902 in school in England, from his word on his military papers. I assume he lived with family, as Charles and Annie were not well off. who were Charles 5 or so siblings? what was the original surname? where in Poland/Russia was Charles born? where in England did they live? where did Allan live 1900-1902? What was Thecla's maiden name? Where in Germany did Anton come from? When and where were Thecla and Anton born? This is my major brick wall. I've checked almost everything at my disposal and have posted queries every where. Any assistance appreciated-Oh, Charles died in Chelsea, MA, and Annie never filed his death record. if she had I wouldn't be asking these questions. Thanks Cornelia

Hi everyone. I've posted to every group except this one thus far. My great-grandmother, Pearl Thompson was born 22 Oct 1877 in supposedly Jefferson County Kansas or Indiana. I've checked the census...but nothing fits yet. She married John Hooper b. 1873 in Parkland, Lincoln Co., Oklahoma in the 1890's. She supposedly was Cherokee Indian adopted by the Thompson parents, who I don't know. She had an adopted brother named Eli that was born in 1880 ? and lived in Shamrock, Creek Co., OK in the 1940's. I've been told that Eli and Pearl were very close. I found an old letter asking my grandmother, Pearl's oldest daughter, to find her half-siblings in Kansas; my grandmother was living in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., KS at the time. The half-siblings names were John, Lillie, and Will Bray. I believe these 3 are birth half-siblings. Pearl also had an adoptive uncle, Leander Thompson that was hung for horse thieving in Pawnee, OK. Now for the last. My grandmother told me that Pearl's family was good friends of Cole Younger and Belle Starr. And that my great grandma as a child slept with Belle Starr when she visited the family. Any ideas????? Robin Sloan Indianapolis, IN
hello, I'm going to risk posting these, though they might not be entirely proper for this list. please let me know if they are. I am looking for a number of missing ancestral uncles, among others. One of these missing multiple great uncles can be read about on the Blacksheep website. His name is Jacob (aka Jack) Fenenga. he disappeared in the 1920's out of Albuquerque NM with a fortune in a money belt. His home was in Seattle WA, and I've never found him in either state. for all I know, he may have hopped a well, not a plane, hmmm? would have to be a steamer to the Netherlands. these two brothers have played an agravating game of hide and seek with me- Warren Speagle Peyton of Stanislaus and Tulare Counties, California-disappeared around 1892 in Tulare Co., but avoided the 1870 and 1880 census Thomas B. Peyton and his wife Sarah E. of Stanislaus Co., California disappeared after 1860 I have others, but these are three on my mind right now. Cornelia
my unsolved mystery: Who was the father of Andrew J. Carpenter, b 1872 KY or TN. Andrew's mother was Mary Jane Frances. Andy married 1892 to Mary Ellen Sullivan, Hopkins Co., KY. There were no Carpenters in the 1870 and 1880 Census of Hopkins or Christian co where he was supposedly born. One Local city directory where he lived with his son lists him as William A. J. Carpenter. There is no Andrew Carpenter, aged 8 yrs in the state of KY in 1880., however, there is a William.. He was in Madison co., KY, with mother, Mary Carpenter, b KY, but list no father. Says William and his father both born TN. any suggestions appreciated. . . _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I am trying to find out about a family legend that occurred in 1887. Sophronia Wish married Miles B. Gardner and it is said that she poisoned him, causing his death, Sophronia and her children, Edward and Miles B.Jr., were exciled from the family. I can't find anything , death records, court records, anything that would cooberate this. Does anyone out there know anything? Thanks, Donna
