Looking for anyone who might be able to solve the mystery of the origin of the KIMBERL surname. The Kimbell family of North Carolina - Ransom Kimbell, his wife, a son named Isham and another, unnamed son moved to South Carolina, then to Alabama circa 1807. They moved to Clarke County, Alabama in the fall of 1812. A Creek Indian attack on their farm killed all but Isham and his younger brother. The younger brother became lost during the attack and was never heard from again. The Kimberl family story is that this lost, younger brother was John Calhoun Kimberl. He could have been found by another family and relocated with them to neighboring Monroe County, where, during this era, a name spelling change could have quite naturally occurred. This would explain why there are very few Kimberl names to be found. Would anyone have any input regarding the possibility of this having occurred? Thanks, Mary Ann Kimberl Bell
Dennis MORRIS bn ca 1838 in Fayette co OH disappeared from the family farm in Richland Co WI in 1866. All family records just say that he disappeared shortly after the Civil War. No court records imply that he was in any sort of trouble and fled.
Suggest that you look for regiments in civil war with Scottish connections - name Cameron. ----- Original Message ----- From: <DCame3260@aol.com> To: <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 22 July 1999 16:17 Subject: [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] Hello > Hello, my name is Dean Cameron and I am attempting to research my family > lines through the Great State of Minnesota. Hello, my name is Dean Cameron and I am attempting to research my family lines through the Great State of Minnesota. I will give some background: My Great Grandfather Fred (Amos) Cameron was born in Aldrich (Wadena CO.) on 3/7/1887. Until very recently Fred was the beginning of the tree. Through Fred's birth cert. and death cert. we have discovered that his fathers name was John J. Cameron and his mother was Nellie (Lyons) Cameron. I have found a Land patent for John J. Cameron and am attempting to find more info. about him through a form 84 at the National Archives. I have also found 32! Lyons in the same area in land patent searches. I am looking for information for the Lyons as well as Camerons. Now for the Family Mystery. The myth is that John had 5 brothers that volunteered for service in the Civil War. They supposedly all died in the opening battle at Gettysburg. I have checked with some of the Minnesota Volunteers "Muster Rolls" and several reaserch volunteers and they cannot be found....so far. It is probable that the story may have been altered over time but it is also probable that it is based upon some fact. If anybody out there can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dean Cameron
Hi, I have searched high and low for Nellie. Whatever may have happened to her after her mother died in 1904 in Carroll, Carroll CO., IA? Mary Ella "Nellie" ENGLISH B 1861 Racine, Racine CO., WI. D Unk. Washington(?) Mary's parents John & Jane ENGLISH moved to Iowa in the late 1860's to Carroll, Carroll CO., IA. and resided there the remainder of their lives. John died in 1901 and Jane in 1904. Nellie had never married and had stayed at home to care for her mother who was paralized from a stroke. Family stories say that Nellie moved to Washington, where other siblings & families lived; either Whidbey Island or Everett; but letters to libraries, Historical Societies, and reviewing census reports show no sign of Nellie. The other family story says that Nellie married an Oliver COGEAN and their was a son Joe. Since Nellie was over 40 perhaps this was his son. But again there is no record of Joe. Any advise or clues to Nellie would be immensely appreciated. Many Thanks, Dixie Lee English dixiee@ix.netcom.com
My g-g-grandfather Andrew McDaniels was found dead (neck broken) near the railroad tracks where he worked in Pittsburgh in February 1900. His wife Catherine ( nee Dunn) suspected this was connected to a murder trial at which he was to testify. Nothing was ever proven . His widow and children (John, Mary, Helen, Catherine, Ann & Agnes , who was born that June after her father's death) moved back to Plymouth, Luzerne Co., PA. This is all oral family history; I've sent for a copy of his obit in a Pittsburgh newspaper. I do not have a birthdate for Andrew McDaniels. On later censuses his children listed their father's birthplace as PA though I've never been able to find him. It appears that he married Catherine Dunn in Luzerne Co. ; their son John was baptised in St. Vincent's , Plymouth on 6 Feb 1887. The other children were born in Pittsburgh. Andrew McDaniels is supposedly buried in St. Agnes Cemetery, Dravosburg (near Pittsburgh), PA. Cindi Zimmerman E-mail : SHIRLBENT@aol.com

Hi all! . . I am missing a relative. He would be in his mid-late 60's by now. His name is Hennig .N.I.E.L.S.E.N. or .R.A.S.K.. I don't know which surname he was given or is using. . . Family lore tells that he has one arm due to an accident during his teens; worked at the war memorial concession shop near the danish-german border; and moved to Koebenhavn where he made/makes his living as a house painter. . . These stories could be true, or just gossip. I have been to the concession shop twice and it was closed. . . Hennig was born in the early 1930's in Hejls / Hejls-Minde, Soenderjylland. It is South of Kolding, East of Christiansfeld and North of Haderslev. . . His mother is Johanne .N.I.E.L.S.E.N. and she could still be alive. She was in her early 20's when Hennig was born. His father is Peter Andreasen .R.A.S.K.. All of Peter's other children are now deceased, including my mother's father, Nis. . . Peter was born in 1860 and married Anna Katrine .B.O.N.N.I.K.S.E.N., in May 1883. She died in 1929. Johanne then lived with Peter until his death in 1942. . . Johanne lived in their house for a bit, then sold it to the Boy Scouts. The organization later sold it to the father of the current owner. It is now used it as a summer house. . . I have been to the summer house for tea, and to the (tiny) archives in Hejls. We found a record of Johanne paying the fire insurance on Peter's behalf. . . It was all done in a rush with no real documentation. My big ears trying to hear everything, hoping to understand .a.n.y.thing. Somewhat of a nosey bulldozer. . . I did get to a local cemetery with micro-recorder in one hand and camera in the other. Found the graves/stones of a few other relative, and some possible relatives; but, no Peter, Johanne, or Hennig. . . I have notes for a wish list, but no local DK contact info. . O.genealogy.group.. Hi I had posted before but made some error's so i am trying it again. I am looking for any information concerning my grandfather Aniello Caruso who married my grandmother Congetta Volpe in 1913 or 14. They lived in Norristown-Pa. They had two children --Frances and my father Anthony who was both in November 1916. Frances was two years old in that year. Congetta died in December 1916. Frances died in April 1917 and that was the year that Aniello left and was not seen or hear from again. My father was raised by his grandmother and no one is sure what happened to my grandfather. Any assistance or direction would be most appreciated. Connie
how to explain this? My mother was born in Columbus, but given away during the depression, adoption was filed for but denied because the parents wouldn't sign the papers. so my mother lived in the children's home...in Summit county. she never met her biological family which brought me to my genealogical search almost 2 years ago...in search of my roots. while in the children's home she was snooping and found out that her real last name was Landis, once she was of legal age she went and got her birth certificate which stated her mother was Ruth A/E Pritchard Landis her father was David W. Landis. I have found my grandmother, unfortunately to late, she died in 1972...I haven't found out anything about her other than that...and she was divorced (it was listed on her death certificate) my grandfather according to my mother's birth certificate was SUPPOSE to be born in Stilwell Kansas,,,,but according to the social security application he stated he was born in Belton Missouri...I now Know who his parents were but have no idea where he died as he died before he was old enough to collect social security. Can anyone suggest where to look? I have tried Kansas...they have nothing and Ohio where my mother was born but nothing. Also is there a way to find out when him and Ruth were married and divorced? As far as I know Ruth never remarried or had other children as she still carried his last name at the time of her death. David's application was 5 years after the birth of my mother and that was in Stanly Kansas. Any advice, suggestions, etc...would be GREATLY appreciated... Melissa, There is one place that I can suggest trying for Wisconsin adoptions: Wi. My great grandmother, Ida Lorena Redmond Elliott, disappeared in St. Louis around 1910. Lorena's daughter, Maxine Elliott, was around 11 at the time. Lorena, who was divorced from Hal Elliott, had taken to traveling and living in hotels. She was arrested for public drunkenness and put in jail. Maxine was put in an orphanage, but ran away. Maxine (my grandmother) was picked up by a farm family from Kansas, with whom she lived for several years. When she was 15 the family sent her to Minneapolis to live with her Aunt. She never saw or heard from Lorena, her mother from the day she ran away in St. Louis, MO. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could search for this woman? I have looked in census in her home state, Indiana, in MO, in MN, etc. What other places can I look? My mother's generation (Lorena's grandchildren) would like to know what happened to her. Well, some would, and some wouldn't. Thanks, Deborah Link
Re: HERMOSILLO I'm originally from that area of California. A co-worker is also from the area, Greenfield. He knows quite a few people in Salinas. I asked him about the name and he thinks he knows a Peter HERMOSILLO. The dates given are older than him or me, but closer to his age. I'll check with him next week to see if he remembers anything or can give any helpful information. I have another friend that is from Salinas. I'll try to locate him and check if he knows the name.
Hi Everybody! When my mom was a kid (mid 50's) her family was broken up and the kids sent to foster homes. Two of her younger brothers and a younger sister were adopted out and she would like to try to find them. Does anyone know where she could look? I've heard of adoption registries but I don't know where to find them. At this time I don't know much info but I'll list it anyway just in case we're lucky. The kids were living in Wisconsin, near Antigo, I think. My mom's name was Mary Rowe, daughter of Riley & (Bertha)Mae Rowe. Her brother's names were Lonnie & Ronnie, but I can't remember her baby sister's name. She had been told by relatives that the children's names had been changed and that the boy's may have been adopted by the same family. I don't know if any of that is true. There were several other children in the family as well, but they were not adopted out. Does anyone have any search ideas? I look forward to hearing from you! Melissa

In any case, this is just speculation until I can find a male or female with a last name of Besch who was born to Johann and Rose in Albany, New York in 1867. I think you may have your dates mixed up? You say your grandparents had two children and the boy was born in November of 1918, but yet the grandmother (the boy's mother) died in 1916? That would mean she died 2 years before she had her son? Maybe you mixed the two up? :-) Lisa In a message dated 6/23/99 9:31:21 PM, libby100@webtv.net wrote: <<Hi I am looking for some assistance in locating what could have happened to my grandfather, Aniello (Neil) Caruso. I know in the state of PA, you can pay $25 and they will search for a death certificate for someone over a span of 10 years. I am not sure about CA, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Since you know about the time frame that she dissappeared, you could start with that.
