Hi, In my husband's family I was told that his ggrandmother had been killed while walking home from picking berries. The person meant to kill her so that he could rob her. I believe that her name was Malissa Byerley b 1837, wife of Jasper Byerley (They were first cousins). I believe that this may have happened in the time frame between 1880 , and 1910. She lived in Rhea County, Tennessee and was buried in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetary. I did find a cousin who had heard of the incident - she said that Malissa had been run over by a bicycle This cousin refused to communicate with me any more. I found another Byerley descendent, but they alo refused to communicate after I brought up this murder . I am trained in a science, so I believe in clearly reporting the facts. Apparently the family thinks if yo don't tak about it, it never happened. I thought of writing to the Rhea County library , but I assume that this will happen again, since relatives have key positions in the library. I had contacted one individual there who did not think that there was any way to trace the murder Any suggestions? Alice

I am trying to locate information on my grandfather Teodoro Ferrara. He disappeared from Allentown Pa in the late 1920's. He left home one day and didn't come back. My family has all kinds of stories about it One was he was running numbers and the government was after him so he left to escape being arrested - Another was he ran off with another woman a divorce who lived near him went to NY and had another family - He left 8 children all agree that he would have gotten a message to them if he could and he also knew that his brother had died also leaving children and he would not have deserted them. My grandmother's family said it was not the first time he had left his wife fighting over his "right" to have a mistress. They also said they always knew where he was but this time he just dropped off the face of the earth. They also said that he was in trouble with the law this time and it was possible that my grandmother turned him in.... (the story was he ran out the back door as the law was coming in the front) My dad says that's nonsense and that he didn't come home one day - My older aunts say it's not nonsense and find it odd that no one (not even his sisters) could find him. His brother's name was Ernesto (his family is in CT) and no one remembers their sister's names for certain - could have been Katrina Maria and Lena or (Angelina). One lived in the Bronx so if he was in NY she would have known. Another rumor was he went back to Italy but if he did that he did not go back to the town he was from because we had letters that reflect their worry over what had become of him. If anyone can shed some light please let me know by e-mailing me at Jancovic1@aol.com

Our Unsolved Mystery involves the history that Phineas (varying spellings) Davidson emigrated from Scotland with his two brothers to Maryland. We only know Phineas' name and are looking for the other two brothers. We do not consider this to be a dead end, rather a mystery because there are other Davidson researchers who carry the same legend and none of us know the names or can make the connection to any of the brothers. The first date we have for Phineas' side is 1757 when William was born but we do not know where or who his mother was or an exact date of birth. We do have William's line, but no mention of sibblings. We do know that Scotland in 1742 was in political turmoil and that Scots were leaving their country. But we do not understand why three brothers would leave their home and not leave mention of each others names or traces of where they were. A minor lead to one brother may have come from George Davidson who descended from John Davidson who was on George Washington's staff. We believe the family was educated because the earliest Davidson we have was a teacher; his son, Samuel read the Bible and Greek stories and Samuel's children were also teachers, lawyers, ministers who went to school. Would anyone have any clue as to where we could look to find the answers to why and when the three brothers left and who they are? Thank you for your time, any help is greatly appreciated. Kay Davidson
This morning I recieved an E-Mail from a close friend that warned of a virus. It sounded very credible and it probably is. I am fairly new to the Internet and I did not know that forwarding such information is a no-no. Please accept my apologies. Dean Cameron
Hi, My 2nd Great GrandFather was Wilson Williams ( that's the name he used) He lived in Fayette County Ga where he was a farmer and a contract ditch digger . He is said to have come from Alabama....Which part I couldn't say. In Alabama he Stabbed and killed an unfortunate man in a fight over a woman and fled the law and the state of Alabama into the state of Georgia to avoid hanging. He talked about it with his children freely but they are all passed away but to my disappointment, they never did talk about it except in a very limited way. Of course he most likely changed his name to stave off the bounty hunters and angry kin of the man he killed so I don't know where in Alabama he could have been, or for that matter...WHO.I of course want to find his line back...failing to find him at all , I decided to try to find mention of any similar murder in hopes of pinning down who committed it. Wilson was most likely born in 1846. I found a Murder that occurred in Chambers County Alabama, the town of Hickory Flat in the year of 1878, The victims name was JOHN CARLOS STRICKLAND (some of his ancestors found me) ...Seem that Mr. Strickland was STABBED TO DEATH IN A FIGHT OVER A WOMAN. But I cant find a name of a suspect, further more this town is located 7 to 9 miles from the Ga state line, which in my mind also added to this particular crimes possibility . THE PLOT THICKENS!!!........... Also in the very same county is a mysterious disappearance of a man who just one day dropped off the face of Chambers County and was never heard of again, His Name..... WILSON WILLIAM SANDERS.....just as added fodder, his mothers maiden name was Williams. A person also contacted me with that information but he show a 13 year difference in the birth of Wilson William Sanders in 1833 compared to Wilson Williams in 1846, est. According to Hospital Record Wilson Williams was 76 years old in 1922 when he died on Oct., 30 1922. How many Stabbing deaths in Alabama could have occurred in a fight over a woman? Wilson was married to Georganna Martin first, then Lillian Landers from Pike Co Ga. At least 2 of his 3 children were born in Alabama , My Great GrandPa , James Washington Williams in 1877 and then Daniel K. William in 1878, same year of the murder. But if he changed his name, that means theirs was changed too! If anyone can offer help on any similar crimes of passion in Alabama I would be very Grateful. Regards, Steven

Hi, I have been trying unsuccessfully to find traces of my great-grandparents whose names were supposedly James and Pheba Jane THOMAS MILLS. I have found a death certificate on a Jane Mills born 1876 in KY to Wiley and Sally THOMAS. I know this is the right lady because her funeral was paid for by a Carlis Mills, which is my great-uncle. I have found her gravesite, which has a stone marked Jane Thomas Mills with a birth date of 1878. I have also found one census record for 1910 in Scott Co. TN in which a Pheba Jane Mills is listed as a widow born in 1881 with 4 living children. The children living with her are William Floyd (my grandfather), Lawrence, and Carlis. I have no idea who or where the 4th child was. The census record says that Pheba Jane was born in TN to parents both from TN. It also says that the children were born in KY to parents both from TN. I can't find a James and Pheba Jane Mills on the 1900 soundex for KY, his is where they should have been when their first child was born. There is a family in Scott Co. TN who descended from an Abner Thomas. One of Abner's sons may have been named Abner Wiley. This Abner Wiley may have moved to Wayne Co. KY as there is an 1880 census record for a Abner and Sally Thomas with a 2-year-old daughter named Jane. I have never seen Pheba Jane's husband's name on any documents, so it could very well be something other than James. I know my father called his father William all his life, even though his SS file and headstone both had only Floyd on them. Floyd's SS says he was born in Knox Co. TN, but there are family names in Knox Co. KY that are hard to ignore. For example, one of Floyd's sons is named Oda and I have found the name Oda Mills more than once in Knox Co. KY during the late 1800's. Could they be Floyd's uncles, etc..?? One other thing, Jane is said to have committed a murder in self-defense when she had "one child on the hip and was pregnant with another". The family story is that the person she murdered was a woman who came to her house with the intent of harming her. Not counting the 4th unidentified mystery child, I know that Jane's children were born between 1901 and 1906, putting the murder sometime between 1902 and 1906. I am assuming that it happened in KY or TN. If any of you have access to birth records in Knox Co. KY or Knox Co. TN, I would be so very grateful if you could help me find a birth record for my grandfather William Floyd MILLS, born in 1901. Or if you have any other clues or suggestions, I would appreciate those too. THANKS, Lisa

There are so many mysteries surrounding my gggrandmother, I don't think I will ever find out which family she belongs to. Her name is Jemima WILSON, and the earliest I can find her is September 5, 1859 when she marries a William J. BRIGHT in Guntersville, Alabama, Marshall Co. I know that she had two son before marrying this William BRIGHT, they were Geroge W.E.? and Andrew Levi. Mystery No. 1: When Jemima married William BRIGHT September 5, 1859 she is listed on the marriage record as Jemima N. WILLSON. My maiden name was WILSON, and as far back as I can remember that is how it has been spelled, one "L" not two. Mystery No. 2: Jemima's two sons, George W.E.? and Andrew Levi, according to Lula WILSON, Andrew Levi's daughter and my greataunt, never knew who their father was. They believed they were illegitimate. So, who is Jemima?? If her maiden name is WILSON/WILLSON, I sure have not been able to find a WILSON family that she fits into. Mystery No. 3: Jemima's two sons, George W.E.?. and Andrew Levi grew up from the time of her marriage to William J. BRIGHT until the late 1880's using the surname BRIGHT. They married and had at least half of their children using the surname BRIGHT. Then in 1886 Andrew Levi, my ggrandfather, shows up on land documents using the surname WILLSON, and his brother George has also changed his name to WILSON. By 1900 Andrew Levi is in Leflore Co. OK, Indian Territory and he is using the surname WILSON, one "L". Mystery No. 4: What was the major event in the late 1880's that would cause these two grown men, after already marrying and having children to change their names back to what appears to be their mother's maiden name????? Mystery No. 5: Why would Jemima give her first son three middle names, and what is the 3rd? They are listed as initials on the 1860 Marshall Co. census, and the third initial is not readable. Mystery No. 6: Who is John BLAKE? Jemima WILSON and William J. BRIGHT were married at the home of a John BLAKE. I can find absolutely no connection to this BLAKE family. Mystery No. 7: William J. BRIGHT is said to have been Cherokee Indian. One of his sisters supposedly could not even speak any english. Why didn't William register?? Did he live his life passing himself off as a White Man? How would you prove that? William and Jemima WILLSON BRIGHT living among and around WILSONS in Marshall Co. Alabama from 1859 until the last time I can find them in 1880. I have contact virtually every WILSON researcher on the internet I can find that are researching these WILSON families, and none of them have ever heard of Jemima. Eeegadds, I am going NUTS!!! Darla
My mystery involves a black market adoption in which all or part of the non-identifying adoptive information may be false. The birthmother was allegedly 23 years old; resided in Nyack, NY; was born in VA; was a retail secretary; and was Jewish. Hospital records were in the name Virginia Lassiter, but the adoption papers were signed Betty Lassiter. Virginia/Betty gave birth to a daughter on 29 August 1942 that she named Mary Lassiter. Mary is not a Jewish name. I'm listowner of the LASSITER mailing list at Rootsweb. The majority of the listmembers are WASP, and we have a few descendants of LASSITER slaves. LASSITER doesn't appear to be a Jewish name, either. Both Emanuel Loebel from NYC, the attorney who handled the adoption, and Dr. Jerome Dana Niles of Delaware, the doctor who delivered the baby, are deceased, and their records have allegedly been destroyed. Dr. Niles had at least three private Maternity Homes.....one in Nyack, NY; one in Middletown, DE; and one in PA. Great pains were taken to hide the identity of the birthmother. However, after the adoptive father died, two pictures of the birthmother were found hidden in his belongings. The adoptive mother confirmed that this was the birthmother and then had a nervous breakdown. It appears that the adoptive father may have also been the birthfather, as he's the man in one of the pictures. Virginia/Betty's daughter has problems that the doctors haven't been able to diagnose. Virginia/Betty's grandson was recently diagnosed with cancer. It is critical that we find this woman or her descendants to get medical information. Please take a look at the pictures on http://members.aol.com/bamamama. The woman in the pictures is beautiful and appears to be wealthy. I have the strangest feeling that I've seen her in an old movie. She looks so familiar. Who is she? Judy
