I received the marriage certificate for my great-uncle Manning today. What a wonderful gift. I had been looking in the wrong place. My COCHRANEs were living in Lincoln, NE from 1884 on, well Manning had moved to Wilber, NE which is in a different county then I was looking in! I'm on the trail again. ZDeirdre Z
Harold Thiel was born on 19 Oct 1931 at 2574 Wallace Ave., Bronx, NY to Gerald and Elsie (Shell) Thiel, both born about 1906 in Germany. Harold grew up thinking he was adopted but upon retirement he learned differently. He had to send for his original birth certificate and it was on this document that he learned he had a sister about a year older. A search of the birth index in NYC produced only one possible child with the surname Thiel: Erika Thiel born 22 June 1930 in Manhattan At the age of six months Harold was left with a babysitter (in NYC) and his parents seemingly disappeared and he was raised by this family. At the age of fourteen he became ill and this family had to get a legal name change for him. It was in these papers that Harold learned the story of his beginnings or their version of it anyway. When he was left in the care of this family, they were paid the sum of $14.00 for two weeks babysitting (this suggests to me that they planned on returning), and never returned. Harold was in upstate New York with this family by March of 1933. I have telephoned hundreds of Thiels in the U.S. and had a letter translated into German and mailed it to random Thiels in Germany upon the chance his parents had returned home. I have had the Passenger Arrival List Index searched but could not find any record of their arrival, nor could I find an application for Naturalization. Due to the Privacy Laws of New York State, we cannot get a copy of Erika's birth certificate until 75 years have passed and this is the only way to verify that she is actually the missing sister. Harold would very much like to know what happened to his sister and since his parents were only 25 when he was born, he may have other siblings out there. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening. Sylvie Paine spaine@eaznet.com
Well I caused a small riot a couple years ago at a Thanksgiving dinner 2,300 miles away from where I was. I found a clipping about the man who married my great aunt. I knew he had been married before and assumed he was widowed. I had been in contact with his son (a delightful man in his 80's) who said he didn't know anything about his father's family as he had been raised by someone with the last name of Crain. I was looking through some old Oswego KS newspapers when I saw the headline "Hallowell rocked by two elopements" I read how my great uncle by marriage first wife ran off with a Jack Crain, taking her youngest child with her. I sent this clipping to another Crain researcher who brought it out at the family dinner. Well, her dad thought it hilarious, but I guess a couple of her great aunts had their nose bent out of shape. I guess you never know. -- Mailto:Norahiatt@sprintmail.com Andrew Manar WHERE ARE YOU???? http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/i/a/Nora-Ann-Hiatt-WA/
Hi: William James Lawrence Hamilton, disappeared 40 years ago from Victoria, BC, Canada. Born July 25, 1935, in Toronto, moved with parents to Salt Spring Island before his 2nd birthday. Bill lived in Victoria from about age 10 years, with his father, L G Hamilton, and step-mother Julia. (His mother had died). Bill was in the RCAF 1953-58, stationed in Ontario. In 1958, late fall, he moved back to Victoria, BC. Bill wrote one letter east, giving the Victoria Post Office, General Delivery, as his mailing address. That was the last time we heard from him. In the letter, he stated he wanted money sent to him, or we'd never hear from him again. The money wasn't sent, and we never heard from him again. In 1966 Bill was declared legally dead. We had received a letter from a neighbor we had in Victoria saying the RCMP had found an empty boat floating, last rented by Bill. I can find nothing to prove this is true, I have checked the BC Vital Events, and can't find a death registration for him. I have wrote to the RCAF, the RCMP, different police depts. in BC, Bill's old high school (Victoria High, twice, no reply!) CPP, different government sites that may have access to records, the Coast Guard, and many Hamilton's, with no luck! I would like any information anyone may have about Bill, no matter how old, or unimportant it may seem! Bill was an avid fisherman, he went fishing any chance he got. He was 6'2" tall, slim, curly blond hair, blue eyes and glasses. He was friendly and talkative and got along well with everyone. Thank-you, and good luck in your own searches! Hi, I posted about a month ago asking for ideas about why my great-grandmothers death was May 7th and her burial was May 20, 1920, in North Dakota. Many people on the list suggested that it was because the ground was frozen. Today I received newspaper clippings from the North Dakota Historical Society (by the way it seems that they do a thorough job of looking for newspaper clippings). Anyway truth is stranger than fiction. It seems that she died of natural causes at home. Her husband was eccentric and scared because he found blood on her body. And he claims that the two of them had discussed very informal burial plans. He buried her in the back yard. People in town started to ask about her and he lied he said she had left/run away. The local police did a search and found the body in the back yard. He was jailed, there was an autopsy and an inquest. The autopsy found no evidence of foul play. She was buried in the local cemetery and he was released. Now my question is: what has been peoples experiences about sharing this kind of information with other family members? Thanks VickieM

You can also post to the USGENWEB PROJECT for Michigan and if you know the county, you can go there also, - just type in USGENWEB PROJECT, it will take you to a map of the US, click on the state, then find out which county it is and go there and post your info. Dear Nicole, Hello. I have just subscribed to your Unsolved Mysteries List, which means that I now am subscribed under two addresses. I cannot unsubscribe from the old address, because my present return address is not accepted. Neither can I contact you personally, because my e-mail bounces, with both the old and new addresses. I have tried, and my e-mail bounces, both to the list and to you personally. I'm hoping that you will receive this message, since I have now subscribed with my new address. Can you help me? Will you please unsubscribe me from my old address? It is: jwalla03@mail.orion.org Thank you very much, Jean

Thanks to everyone for the tips and help you gave me several weeks ago regarding the disappearance of my father's sister. So far, still no luck, but I am following some of the leads sent to me. In the meantime, I've created a web page with her picture on it. Take a look ... PLEASE! If possible, please forward to any friends or lists you may be a part of. I'm going to post it on the Arkansas, California and North Carolina lists. Thanks again. We're blessed to have such a great group of people working together on this list. Hello All, I have been enjoying this list for some time now and decided I would put one of my mysteries to the list. My former husband (deceased ) had 2 children to his first wife. Their names are Robert Giambuzzi and Gina Giambuzzi. I do not know if Gina ever got married. El Paso, Texas was thier last residence that I know of, and that was in the late 1970's. Gina was born in 1960, Robert about 1961-62. They have a cousin, Sherry who has been trying to locate them. I know their grandmother would love to contact them, also. On and off for years I have tried to find information on them, but to no avail. I do not know if they even know thier father died. Thier mother is Rebecca Sepulveda and of American Indian heritage. I know she went to school in the 70's to be a nurse and was working in the drug rehablition field. I seem to remember her working for or through the Texas Indian Commision. I also recall her having a friend or associate named "Lolly" I believe when they lived in the El Paso area they lived on or near an Indian Reservation. Would anyone know which one that would be? I have checked the national phone listings on and off for years and have found nothing. At one point I heard Rebecca and the 2 children were in California. Rebecca's father (or step-father) was in the army, so she seemed to be accustomed to relocating. These are all the facts I can remember at this time. Any leads appreciated. Bobbi

I'm once again offering a reward for the identity of the woman in this picture. She may have been a model or actress in the 1940s. I'm basing this on the woman's appearance and because the pictures appear to have been taken in some sort of dressing room. She may have had a daughter on 8-29-42 that she gave up for adoption. Medical information is desperately needed from this woman. Since this was a black market adoption, all or part of the non-identifying adoptive info was probably falsified. The birthmother was allegedly born in 1918 in VA, was residing in Nyack, NY, and was Jewish. Hospital records give her name as Virginia Lassiter, but the adoption papers are signed Betty Lassiter. Someone out there knows who this woman is. HELP!!! http://hometown.aol.com/bamamama/myhomepage/collection.html
