Deb, Perhaps you can ask around to see if anyone else remembers the woman's name, like your father's siblings, cousins, school friends. Maybe an old year book would spark a memory. If that fail, you might check the birth records for that city at that time if you live near there, or have someone else do that - a volunteer or a paid researcher. It works. I've been at the Ancestry site half the night... I got a LOT of e-mail from people who say they cannot access the Ancestry database. It would be delightful to enjoy the free access if the site would let me in! It is now 11:30 PM CDT so the site cannot be too full. When I get to the option of entering a pay area, I am told I cannot enter because I am not a member. What is the secret of getting in?
Hi, I haven't tried the site this year, but in the past it simply hinged on whether or not you would accept a "cookie". I tried last year, and could not get in, until I finally said I would accept the "cookie", and I got right in. Good Luck, Jean ---------- > It would be delightful to enjoy the free access if the site would let me in! > It is now 11:30 PM CDT so the site cannot be too full. This list has gone from extremely helpful & encouraging to uncharacteristically sarcastic. I wrote to the list host at the address given in the welcome letter list ( dwburgess@worldnet.att.net ) but the e-mail was returned as 'unknown'. Unfortunately, we need a moderator right about now. Below, please find information received in the welcome letter when we joined the list. Gail, Ohio "FLAMES: DO NOT send them TO THE LIST. If you really feel the need to flame someone, do it privately. If you get flamed, DO NOT respond TO THE LIST. If you have a problem with something that is posted to the list, email me. We will discuss it. If someone repeatedly flames you, or the flames are particularly abusive, forward the email to me. I will remove them from the list" "1. How to unsubscribe. WHAT'S DIFFERENT II. WHERE DO I FIND THE ITEMS I USE NOW III. SITE MAP ============================================= I. WHAT'S DIFFERENT ============================================= The redesign incorporates the "tab" style used by many popular informational websites, including our sister site MyFamily.com. We have divided our site into HOME, SEARCH, LEARN, SHARE, SAVE, and SHOP tabs. There is also a HELP tab represented by a question mark "?". The content is mostly the same, but it should be much easier for you to get to it. We have added the TODAY@ANCESTRY area off the HOME tab. Here you will be able to find the all the information that is updated daily on our site. The SEARCH tab holds all our genealogical and historical databases and the ADVANCED SEARCH. You still will be able to search off the homepage, but you will want to explore the SEARCH tab to refine your researching. The LEARN tab holds all our self-learn and non-database resources. You will find research tips and guides that are necessary to start or advance your research. Our expert help and columns are also located here. The SHARE tab is the perfect area for you to collaborate with other family history researchers. Our most popular online applications like the Surname Communities and the Message Boards are located here. The SAVE tab is where you will go to record and preserve your family history research. Our Online Family Tree is located here. The SHOP tab is where you will go to purchase the world's finest software, books and other products that help you bring your family together. ============================================= II. WHERE DO I FIND THE ITEMS I USE NOW ============================================= The great news about the redesign is that the most used Ancestry links are still on the homepage, just ONE click away. Additionally some of the more popular items have been brought up to the front page for easier access. SEARCH - same place, on the homepage right up in the center; ANCESTRY DAILY NEWS - same place, on the homepage on the right side; NEW DATABASES - same place, on the homepage on the upper right side; POPULAR DATABASES (SSDI, Census Records, Ancestry World Tree) - on the homepage right below the search area; NEW SITE FEATURES - on the homepage below the search area. ============================================= III. Liborio Nuzzo didnt dissapear, but was involved in something obscure. The only thing I know about him is the following: he had a business ( a restaurant, bar) somewhere in Michigan, one night his business went up in flames or exploded and Liborio fled in the night to the other side of the US. Is there anyone out there who knows what happened to him and his business and why he fled? Thanks bibi ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Thanks to each for your reply. The Calif. Death Index, early years, 1905-1939, may be on the LDS website, so I was told, but I cannot find it. It does appear to be my best source. Carl Goodnow was my uncle but I believe that he died before my birth - 1927. The family never mentioned him except that he was young and wild when he left home. I doubt that he ever married. He was and remains, essentially unknown to my family. But I would like to know what happened to him. Thanks for your interest and help. Russell -- MZ
The VR of the Town of Braintree, MA, under the name Carl Frederick Goodnow, state that he was born in Braintree June 13, 1906 followed by this cryptic note - "Reported murdered in California, date and place unknown at this time." Given his birth date, the tragic event took place between 1924 and 1930. To what sources would one go to find the story of his death? -- MZ
Hi Dorothy, Which authorities notified your mother of Ralph's death? Do you have written notification or just verbal? I would also check local newspapers for a story on the murder. Do you have copies of the obituaries for Ralph's sister and brother? They may list more information. Did either have descendants that may know of more leads or stories? Also, there are a couple of possible matches to your Ralph Dalton in the SSDI; one has a last residence as MA and approximates the dates of birth and death. The other has more similar birth and death dates but was listed as living in OH. Good luck, Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net
Hello, I'm new to this list. I have a mystery to share with others. As a child, I never knew my great-grandmother. It was years later that I was told that she had been institutionalized since before 1946. By my great-grandfather. My grandmother tells of her mother being sick and hospitalized quite often while she was growing up. In 1977, my grandmother had her mother released from the institution and into her care. She had no idea of how to use a "modern" telephone, how to lock a door without a skeleton key, use a stove, etc. My grandmother had to teach her mother all these things. She had no idea that her "husband" had remarried. I know of no documents of his divorcing my great-grandmother. I do know that he got remarried in Mexico in 1946. In 1981, my great-grandmother died, never knowing about her husband. Dianne
Hi Nicole, I'd like to request any and all information regarding the murder of an 80-year old g-uncle of mine. He was, indeed, murdered and authorities finally notified my (now deceased) mother. This incident was hardly ever discussed in our family. I don't know how he died or who killed him; nor do I know where he's buried--or cremated? But here are the facts as I know them: Name: Ralph E. Dalton DOB April 19, 1878 Place Salem, MA Parents Edward H. Dalton & Georgianna F. (nee Smith) Dalton Siblings Ernest E. Dalton and Ethel G. (nee Dalton) Vitello, both of metro Boston (both deceased) DOD 1967 or 1968 Place New York City I believe this man was an evangelist or urban missionary and/or a homeless person, or at least living in rather poor conditions. (He was a very pious man with a strong faith in God. It's also possible he could have been marginally mentally ill.) His parents were Edward H. Dalton and Georgianna F. (nee Smith) Dalton of Salem and Wenham, MA. Any insight or information on this tragedy is greatly appreciated. I'd really like to "bury this ghost" and have some "closure." Thanks so very much. --- Dorothy Malcolm
wow group-I had to share this. I received a E mail asking about the family. Oh-um another one of nothing after all I have searched for 15 years. WOW!!! what a x-mas. I have my whole family in Canada. Hi List: I was wondering if it is alright to send a photo as an attachment to this list? I am looking for William James Lawrence Hamilton, born July 25, 1935, disappeared from Victoria, BC around 1959-60. An empty boat rented by Bill was found floating in the water. No body was discovered. He was never seen again. I wonder if anyone would recognize a 40 year old picture, taken when Bill was about 22 years old, he would be 64 years old now! Hope that this isn't too far off topic for this newslist. Check out this website when you have some free time. There are a few good unsolved mysteries at this site, plus there are also several internet scams listed. Believe it or not, this old dummy here fell for a couple of them herself. No smart comments about this from de, please! <GGG> Judy http://snopes.com/spoons/faxlore
