    3. Barbara - I would want to check the police accident report for the accident in which his parents were killed. They would have to have a license tag number for the vehicle they were in. Also the police would have run a tag check on the vehicle. That would tell you the state and the address at which they lived at the time of their deaths. There also may have been personal effects from the vehicle, like the mother's handbag which might be listed in a vehicle inventory. Info on the drivers license of the person driving can also offer clues. Have you checked the Social Security Death Index for both parents. If either one is listed-that will give you a social security number, which can be checked further for information or clues. If not in the SSDI-you can still send to Social Security and see if they have anything on them. Costs a little more and takes longer. Once I knew where they lived, I would check old directories for the area for that surname and contact anyone with that name today living in the area. Sometimes it really does work. I hope this is some help to you. Best of Luck. Corinne <arbhrs@hotmail.com> ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Hi, Do I understand correctly that you are willing to look for someone in all states by the criteria of first, last name and DOB? If so I would really appreciate it if you could search for Lucinda Hazel Gilson MORTIMER. DOB 22 May 1902. She is/was my grandmother. She left home, Dummerston, VT, in the fall of 1942 and was supposedly never heard from again. I believe some members of the family did find where she went but they would never tell. I was 6 mo old when she left so I never knew her. I would really like to know what became of this woman. It is believed she left with a man but I have never been able to get a name for him. She most likely is no longer alive but doesn't appear to be on the SSDI which doesn't surprise me as it is unlikely that she would have ever had a job where she needed a SS#. I have always thought of her as being elderly because my other gram was but Lucinda was only 40 when she left so she could have had another whole family after she left. I believe the only way she will be found is if there is a way to look for anyone with a DOB of 22 May 1902 as I suspect she almost certainly had a different surname and quite possibly changed her given name. One of her daughters did tell me her friends called her Hazel rather than Lucinda. I have no idea where she may have gone except it was probably in US. 3. Hello: I am searching for William (Bill) James Lawrence Hamilton, who disappeared on a fishing trip in 1959. His last address was 3017 Shelbourne St in Victoria, BC Canada. I have posted a photograph on my Family Tree Maker Home Page. I would really be grateful if anyone could look at it, and see if you recognize him. It is a 40 year old photo, Bill was about 23 years old in it, now he would be 63 years, is still alive. Bill was 6 foot 2 inches tall, blue eyes, slim, thick wavy blond hair. He loved fishing. Bill was raised in the salt Spring island and Victoria area of BC, Canada. Any information is welcome, Thank-you, Deborah Reid http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/i/Deborah-Reid ----- Original Message ----- From: <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2000 11:17 AM Subject: GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-D Digest V00 #17

    3. Has anyone come across a person that fits the following description: <unnamed> Cooke, the first of five children and the only daughter of Richard and Virginia (Cooke) Moriarty, was born at 7:50 P.M. on 6 April 1954. The birth was at the Booth Memorial Hospital, 858 Roanoke Road, Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Richard P. Glove was the attending physician. The Booth Memorial Hospital was where young women at a home for unmarried mothers gave birth before relinquishing their babies for adoption. The Salvation Army owned and operated this hospital. The birth certificate does not mention the father's name and gives the mother's name as her maiden name since she did not marry the father of the girl until two years after the birth of the girl. This daughter was adopted soon after her birth. It is believed that the adoption was handled by Childrens Services. References -- Ohio Department of Health, Division of Vital Statistics, Certificate of Live Birth. Registrars Number 6933. Birth Number 134-54. Registration District Number 18. Primary Registration District Number 1801. Reference to Volume 16022, Certificate Number 52256. -- Check made out to the Childrens Services and signed by Dorothy Cooke, mother of Virginia.

    2. I believe that I have already ran a locateme check on this person - I will run this for anyone - no charge,(once) but if there are a lot of 'hits' then you will have to sort thru them, it is done either thru one state or all of them, you cannot limit it to a select few states - also I have found that they do not purge their data very often and you might get the same person with several addresses, but still you have a starting point - I am limited to 3 hits per day so it could take some time getting the results back to you - it is also done by DOB or first and last name or a combination of the three - I have had at least 5 'finds' with this database. delilah At 14:02 1/17/00 -0800, you wrote: >If you have a birthdate for him--you could try locateme.com > >I have had good results with them-money back if no hits. >Lady Patricia >-----Original Message----- >From: PeggyLynnRowe@aol.com <PeggyLynnRowe@aol.com> >To: GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com ><GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> >Date: Monday, January 17, 2000 1:19 PM >Subject: Re: [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] Did he really disappear? > > >>I just got your mail from the Mysteries List. 3. Have you tried writing to newspapers in Selma, Alabama? Surely an accident that claimed two lives and left an orphan would be reported. You might also try contacting the reference librarian at the Selma, Alabama Public Library and asking him/her to do a search of the newspaper for 1944/45. I could not find a record of my gggrandmother's death until a librarian found a front page article about a fire she died in. I think I only paid about $5.00 for the copy of the information. 3. Barbara, When my grandmother passed away, she was in a town & state other than the one she lived in. Her death certificate was issued by the state she died in.Maybe you should check Alabama Vital Statistics for the death certificates. If you obtain a death cert.,it should contain the person's residence, names of their parents, and possibly name of relative providing info. This would be much simpler than a battle with sealed adoption records. Someone wrote my mother(around 1959) saying the RCMP found an empty rental boat, last rented to Bill Hamilton, floating in the water. I have been searching everywhere, wrote many, many letters, and can find no proof of this. I believe Bill started a new life somewhere, perhaps with a new name. How easy is it to change your identity? I was thinking of making a home page based on Bill Hamilton, with old photo's, maybe someone will recognize him that way, if indeed he has a new name. Does anyone have any ideas? Description of Bill. 6'2" tall, slim, wavy blond hair, blue eyes, wore glasses. Loved to fish, had a brother named Ross (raised in differant homes though), went to Victoria High School from 1950 to 1953. Was in the RCAF from 1953-58. Lived at 3017 Shelbourne Street 1958-59. The next door neighbor knew Bill from school, I don't know her name, but she had 2 sons named Lance & Wade who would be about 40'ish now. This is the person who wrote the letter about the empty boat. I would like to contact her, for more details.
