Can we try to remove the Gen stuff from the subject line and write what the message is about? I get this list in digest mode and when I look at the list of messages, all I see is the RE: Gen-unsolved mysteries L. I can't see what the messages. Hope thats not too awfully direct. *S* Thanks, Shannon

I was born in Minnesota, USA 1957, and there is a time on my birth certificate. The older birth certificates for my grandparents do not have a time. Also my only brother and my youngest sister are twins. In the family we have always known that David was a few minutes older than Diane. David thought they were born around 9 AM. However the time on the birth certificates is in error. The birth certificates state that David was the first of the twins and Diane was the second of the twins. The times listed show Diane at 11:10 AM and David at 11:40 AM. Even if David is wrong about thinking he was born at 9AM the certificates themselves conflict in that they have a box for stating if multiple births which is first and it says David. But the times do not agree with that.
Was anyone able to ask the sister/twin her birth date. In UK the way to tell if a child is a twin is that the time of birth is recorded - this is only put on multi-births. e.g. my husband was born 10.20 a.m. and his twin sister was born 10.30 a.m. Could it have been that the sister/twin was actually the twin or could she, as he believed, have been his sister and a second child/twin was maybe stillborn, in which case there may not have been a certificate. Have you traced Theresa's birth place - could have have been NO and she, for whatever reason, returned there with the girls or was it her wish that it would be her last resting place. happy hunting. Let me know if you find anything - quite a mystery Regards, K>, Robin Hood Country. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BMB312@aol.com> To: <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 23 January 2000 00:54 Subject: [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] New Orleans Twin Birth Mystery > Hi, When I began researching my tree, I got to my grandfather( Rene Borel) > who died before I was born. Hi friends, I have been following all the mysteries posted as of late. They all sound oh, so familiar. I already posted my mystery a few months ago, but so far no new information. For those of you who are new, you can read all about it at: http:www.geocities.com/Heartland/1989 I am following some very good leads from the list: possible social security numbers, dept. of veterans affairs, etc. and am currently awaiting responses. I have a new question: Does anyone know of any organizations, lists etc. that posts links to pages? For example, some website that I could introduce my story and add the link to my page, like adoption or military sites, anything? I've posted dozens of times on genweb query pages, missing persons boards, etc. I wish you all the best. I get so excited when someone reports a find! About to be snowed in , in N.C. Faye Edwards
Barbara,New Orleans is so vast. There are so many surrounding areas with different names, but most people refer to the area in general as New Orleans. Do you know if there was a possibility of deafness or blindness? There is a well known institute there for children like this. I would try all the areas around New Orleans. My unsolved mystery is not a name but in some photographs which is all the information I have on my blood ancestors, I was adopted and it seems there is no unidentified information, I dont have the money to hire a PI but I do have these photos on a friends web site, if anyone would care to look at them I would appreciate hearing your comments. Ellie - There were Depew's living in Fayette Co, Illinois 20-25 years ago. Some family may still live there. Specifically in Vandalia and possibly some of the smaller communities near Vandalia. There is both a geneology society and active historical society in Fayette Co. Good Luck.
from personal experience, I've been able to get more information from Australia than England - have you joined the Australia list? Good luck. Sometime between 1881 and 1885, Floyd Depew was born in Keyser Twp, DeKalb County, Indiana, to John and Rebecca DeLong Depew. (He was not listed on the 1880 census.) John died in January of 1897. Before 1900, Rebecca had remarried and subsequently divorced. Also before 1900, Floyd and his mother had a severe disagreement about her male visitors. Floyd took what few possessions he owned and left, never to return. (John's will names Floyd, but Floyd was not listed on the 1900 census in Indiana.) He did, however, send a few letters home from "out west," wherever that may have been. After a short time, all communication ceased, which has left his family wondering for almost 100 years: "Whatever happened to Floyd?" There was a branch of the Depew family in Henry County, Missouri, and there may have been others in the western states, but I have been unable to find a trace of Floyd. Are there any angels out there who can help? Ellie
Ruth, I'm not sure about England, but I know that Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands have huge archive buildings in which they store all colonial records. Spain's is in Seville, and it is called the "Archive of the Indies." I mention this only because I think that England would probably have also kept colonial archives. If so, the records you seek would be found there. Also, which shipping company owned the Petrel? If they are still in business, they might have further information, as would the emmigration office. And don't forget to check with the Church of England. They have long kept excellent records. Good luck!
