I have an Elenoria Gill, dates unknown, but married to my William Lemuel Richard Meyers; they would be about 1825-30, as their daughter, Mary Ellen Meyers was born May 23, 1850 in Marion, Ohio. If you find a possible connection, or more information on this line, I would appreicate it, as this is all I have. Lory J. Are there any Gill's out there.....
My name is Mary Lee Rogness; I was born in Iowa City Iowa. I am looking for information on my father who died when I was 2. His name is Robert Roy Rogness, born 02/15/1927, died 11/22/1963. He married my Mother in 1957 in Iowa City Iowa. I am getting conflicting information as to what his parents names are. He would not talk about his side of the family to my mother. He would get mad and change the subject, every time she brought it up. He would only say he was born in Gold Stone Montana and that his mothers name was Rose. I ordered a birth certificate from Montana, and there was not one on file. I also ordered a birth certificate from Michigan and North Dakota there was not one there either. He applied for the Social Security Card in Rugby North Dakota on May 25,1954. On his Social Security Card application it says: He was born Big Rapids Michigan Father: Robert John Rogness Mother: Alice McKinzie On his and my Mothers marriage certificate it says: He was born Gold Stone Montana Father: Gulleck Sven Rogness Mother: Rose Swenson

My friend believes he was born in the Mrytle Beach area in South Carolina. His parents were Frank & Edna Cooper. This is from what her mother told her. Also an aunt dated him & she told her that he was born in the Mrytle Beach area. Thanks for your response. Hi Delilah, Thanks for your reply. Have posted to many of the registries on the net. Am a member of a NYA List. It is the best! Hoping to gain some new info, by trying other places on the net. Praying that someone recognizes the info. The info I have learned on my brother's adoptive family is relatively new to me. So, with this in mind, I hope it sparks a memory of someone out there. Have been looking for him for a long time. Again thanks for your time, any thoughts are most greatly appreciated:) tabitha -----Original Message----- From: diamond6468@mindspring.com <diamond6468@mindspring.com> To: GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, June 29, 2000 3:42 PM Subject: Re: Searching for Brother born July 4, 1951 >Have you posted any of this info on any of the adoption triad registries >and there is a very good mailing list for triad members in NY, they will >give you lots of search help >delilah > > > > > > > >At 09:38 6/29/00 -0600, you wrote: >>Thought I would post my mystery to the list, in hopes someone might >>recognize any of the info here. I find it so awful that not only were these children seperated from their parents (however bad one's parents may seem) I'm sure that the children have a right to know why they were left - it could have been that they were taken off of the parents. Also think its awful that siblings were split. Even then it does not end - the court won't allow access to the files. Wouldn't a letter to a local newspaper help? Bubbles from Robin Hood Country. ----- Original Message ----- From: Catherine Comeau <cats14818@yahoo.com> To: <GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 29, 2000 2:04 PM Subject: Abandoned Family 1925 NY, PA Border : able to find the whereabouts of his two sisters, one : he met for the first time in 75 years last fall, the : other died in 1996, and one brother who died fairly : : The children were all taken into the custody of : : :
Thought I would post my mystery to the list, in hopes someone might recognize any of the info here. I'm looking for my oldest brother who was born in Buffalo, NY on the above date. He was placed with his adoptive parents at around the age of 15 months old, somewhere in New York State. Prior to his placement with them he was with a foster family. His adoptive parents were described as in their early thirties at the time they "received" my brother. They are/were Protestant. They had no other children of their own either biological or adopted, at the time of my brother's adoption. The adoptive father was described as active in his community. He was employed in an "industry requiring electronic skills". My brother's adoptive mother was a homemaker. Both adoptive parents had high school educations, with no other further education listed. The adoptive father was English/German and the adoptive mother was Irish/German. If this sounds at all familiar to you, or if you have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated if you could email me! thanks, tabitha
My father, along with his 4 siblings, were abandoned by their parents, Charles & Katie (Bailey) Hollenback in 1925 in Owego, NY. Through genealogy I have been able to find the whereabouts of his two sisters, one he met for the first time in 75 years last fall, the other died in 1996, and one brother who died fairly recently. We are still searching for any knowledge of the third brother, Elmer Hollenback who was born abt 1919 in either Bradford County, PA or Tioga County, NY. The children were all taken into the custody of Tioga County, NY and were never allowed any knowledge of their parents or each other. In fact, I believe that they even changed the spelling of Hollenback in such munite ways so that if they did try to look for each other, it would be that more difficult. So Hollenback could be spelled Hollenbeck, Hollenbach, or several other variant ways. Again through genealogy, I have been able to find out that his father, Charles Hollenback died in March 1950 in Bradford County, PA and his mother, Katie (Bailey) Hollenback died in Dec 1975 also in Bradford County, PA. We are also seeking information on the reasons for the abandonment. The records were sealed by the court in 1925. We have already been through the court order routine, only to run into a dead end, in that the current Judge, refused to reveal any of the details in the court records. First we would like to find out about Elmer Hollenback, what happened to him and/or did he ever have any family, and to solve the mystery as to why the parents seemingly left town leaving behind 5 children? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi Catherine This is sure one time I disagree with the NY Court System. All of these siblings should have access to that file especially for health reasons. They have the Right to their Heritage. After all this was 75 yrs ago and the parents are dead. Did anyone have the Newspaper Obits on these Parents? Did it show any survivors or additional children? Perhaps if it did they would have the Reason or know some of the Answers. Did the Mother or Father have any Brothers or Sisters that might have an Answer to this Mystery? Just a thought. Also, The Parents must of had in their possession Court Documents regarding this case.Maybe if they had another child they would be aware of it. Bailey was a well known Western NYS Name in the Late 1800's and I am assuming that she was a Descendant of one of these families. Also, another Avenue might be to look for Newspaper Articles in or around the Date that the children were taken by the County and perhaps there might be a story regarding the incident. Maybe a relative reported mistreatment, children left unattended or something. I would look for other Relatives on the Father and Mother's Side such as Sister/Brothers and perhaps a Family Member has some knowledge of this situation. Someone out there must know what happened. It seems that the mother would of tried to locate these children since they were apparantly not that far from each other. How sad that they not only lost their Parents but they lost each other. Maybe Elmer is still living and wondering about his bothers and sisters. However he could of moved to another state further away, married, had a family and perhaps one of them will see you email on Gen Unsolved Mysteries and Reply. I wish you all the Luck in the world and hope you can get a clue. Pat
