    3. gayle, I was wondering if you could help me since you have quite a bit of knowledge. I am looking for the other biological children of my father (he passed away in 1982 when I was a little girl) I know the children are @50 =/- 10 years. I know my fathers information like ss#, date of birth, death, military serial number etc. But I have no information on them other than their names when I was young. Male child named Don Brown, female by the first name of Elaine Brown (probably married now) Would appreciate any help ending this search. Last known residence of the son was St Louis, MO. I have called everyone and sent e-mails and found nothing. 3. Andie As a long time genealogist, I would encourage you to start beginning to pin down your information by using the census. 1. I would check the 1920 census for the Barnes in Oklahoma 2. Once I found where they were then, I would see if they were there as early as 1910. Then I would read the entire county (and if they were near the county line, the next county over) to see if there were McIntyres in that area. There may have been siblings, and I would be sure to check for them as well. 3. I would also look at the marriage records for the county and surrounding counties where the Barnes lived and see if the McIntyre couple happened to have been there for a while and married there. 4. It may be that the Barnes were not strangers to the couple, but long time neighbors or distant family either in Oklahoma, or where ever they came from. 5. You might want to try searching any area newspapers from where the Barnes resided for that time frame of 1905-1915 to see what turns up. Small town newspapers are usually weeklies and are a quick search if you can borrow them on interlibrary loan, or visit the local library or museum. 6. If you can determine where Evelyn attended school as a child you might be able to find school records giving you a birth date. Did she apply for social security? Many people in her age group, if they didn't have a birth certificate filed about the time of Social Security implementation to World War II they applied for a delayed birth certificate. I realize this all takes time, but the hunt is as much fun as the final victory! good luck to you and your friend! Gayle

    1. Charlie McIntire/McIntyre -- Oklahoma area

    3. A dear friend of mine has quite a mystery in her family tree that we would all love to see solved. Her mother grew up as a foster child in the household of Tom and Donie Barber in Oklahoma. The story her mother had always heard was that her birth mother and father had come through southern Oklahoma (apparently around the township of Lula, which I believe is in the vicinity of Coal county), perhaps as sharecroppers. The father whose name is believed to be some variation of the name Charlie/Charley McIntire/McIntyre was reportedly a sharecropper and had left his wife and young baby to go to Texas to do some sharecropping but he never returned. In the meantime, the mother of the child died. Her name name have been Mary (Barnes) McIntire or possibly Lula. She would have died sometime about 1910 - 1915 presumably. Upon her death Tom and Donie Barber took in the baby and raised the child as a foster child. The child was named Evelyn McIntire/McIntyre. Evelyn was born sometime between 1908 and 1912. The Barber family did move from the SW Oklahoma area where they hooked up with Eveylyn over to the Rush Springs-Chickasha area (around Grady County) where they ultimately settled. All attempts to find information on any of these individuals has failed. We don't know if Charlie McIntire truly went to Texas to sharecrop and if something happened to him or if he abandoned his family and/or took on a new identity. We would also love to learn more about Tom and Donie Barber, their history and where they are buried which presumably would be somewhere in central Oklahoma. Andie astringf@msn.com

    1. Hardin Joseph LaPlante
    2. I have been trying for 2 years to find information on my great-grandfather, Hardin Joseph (aka Joseph Hardin) LaPlante. He was born January 29, 1856 in Shutesbury MA to Medard and Julia (Shaw) LaPlante. On 10/26/1905, his son Burton Shaw LaPlante committed suicide in Pelham MA. After that time, Hardin's wife, Addie Louise, refused to talk any more about him and Hardin disappeared. None of my family members know where he went. Does anyone out there have any information that might help me figure out where he died and when? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Hello to everyone on the ROOTSWEB unsolved genealogical mysteries list.i would like to ask for some help on the following "brick wall": In the year 1900,my 2nd Great -Uncle, W. Denton Fouke, disappeared from northern Illinois. He was suspected of a robbery/double murder in rural Stephenson County,IL. He was never caught or heard from again, that any of us today know of. In 1896 ,Denton was living around Richland Center,WI,and married a Cora Alice Sollard also:SOLARD,MALONEY,MAHONEY,FOUKE,FOULKE.......later,MATTERS ,WHITE).They had a son and a daughter together, and lived in Rockford,IL for awhile. Cora and the children ended up in Oregon . Her grandchildren would also like to know Denton's fate. We assume that he took up a new name and a new life elsewhere. In the past, when living under an alias,Denton had used his mother's real maiden name on his wedding papers. His parents were William James Fouke and Sarah "Sally May" Sheets. Does anyone have any suggestions to help us continue? Thanks! Darrin R. Fouke

    2. Delilah: You have been so wonderful about helping me with my queries. However, I have just noticed that I failed to make clear where they were during the Rev. War. They were in Effingham/Screven (maybe Pulaski, too) Counties, in GA. The name Caleb was for the father, born in about 1708, Anson Co., NC, possibly too old to actually participate in the Rev. War. However, he could have attained Patriot status. He and his family left Anson Co., NC in the mid 1700s, and settled in SC, and then the Screven Co. area. He had a son, Caleb Howell, Jr., listed in Bockstrock's DAR Patriots, as were sons Daniel, and Philip. All were listed as officers. His son, Thomas, was in Effingham in 1764, when his own son..Philip..was baptised. Thomas should have been in the Rev. War,in either S.C. or GA. However, I have been unable to document his service..or as one of the Thomas' listed. Thomas' son Philip, reached adulthood in Screven Co., and surrounding area, received land grants/bounties. He seems to have always been close to his uncle, Caleb, Jr. In 1810, Philip and family left that area, on passport from the Gov. of GA. They entered the area that is now Pascagoula, MS. Obviously, Caleb is a very common Howell name. However, I cannot document any connection to any Howells north of Anson Co., NC. I know of three Calebs in our family since this Caleb, Jr. My hope is to find someone who has received DAR recognition as an ancestor of Caleb, or Caleb, Jr. preferably. However, I would also like to know if anyone is listed for his brothers Daniel or Philip. Please know that I appreciate anything you can locate through your resources. Victoria

    3. Here's the obituary for the Weedmark I promised you. Sorry to have been so long in getting it. Services Planned Wednesday For William P. Weedmark, 71 Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, at 2 p.m. at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge, for William P. Weedmark, 71, who died on Friday, September 10, at a Utica hospital. Mr. Weedmark was born in Illion, the son of William and Marion Porter Weedmark. He graduated as Valedictorian of the Town of Webb High School Class of 1946, where he received the Bausch & Lomb Scholarship. He was married to Naiomi Joy in October 1955, and was employed by the Town of Webb. He was a member of Niccolls Church, a life member of the Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Town of Webb Historical Association Board of Directors. He was an instructor with the National Rifle Association and an accomplished photographer. Mr. Weedmark is survived by two sons, William C. and John P. Weedmark; three grandchildren, Cory, Bryce and William J. Weedmark; a brother Harry Weedmark, a niece and a nephew. Calling hours will be held today, Tuesday, September 14, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eldridge-Dimbleby Funeral Home in Old Forge. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers friends consider a memorial gift to the Old Forge Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund, the Town of Webb Historical Association or the Town of Webb Community Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Adirondack Express, Old Forge, NY, 14 September 1999, page 2 col. 1. I'll try to sniff around the Historical Society, and Library to see if they have anything on his parents. This paper was started too recently to have anything on them in their archives, but there was an earlier paper, and since he went to school here it's possible they died locally, and that we can get the name of his father's parents. I'll see. 2. Hi Mary Thank you for you kind thoughts in sending this. Since this is in NYS and the fact that they lived in a Rural Area not that far from St. Lawrence Co. NY there is a possibility that we could have a connection. He could of remarried and settled down and had a Second Family. I would think that perhaps this would be a Grandson. However, if we could locate something on his father and his fathers DOD we could maybe find out who the father was. Howard Roy Weedmark was born abt 1881-82. Could be as late as 1885. He disappeared abt 1916. My mother was very young and perhaps he was already married when he left. She does not know. He was divorced at that time and again had he remarried late this could even be a Son. Boy! I would sure be excited if this was true. Also he could of changed his Name. One never knows anymore. You must of saw where I found my Uncle Wallace Weedmark/Weidmark's Son (Robert) on Gen-Unsolved Mysteries with the help of a Great Gal Diana. I was so excited when I talked to him Wednesday Night that I still have not got over it. Just think almost 50 years. Unbelievable!! Wouldn't it be the work of God if I could find where my Grandfather disappeared to? The Birth Cert show the name as Weedmark, but my mother's brother always used Weidmark as a spelling. Never knew why? Guess in the transulation from Swedish to English things like this happen. But I search under all the spellings. Thank You Again Pat

    3. Good morning Lady Patricia, I went to the on-line site of the NARA (National Archives) and ordered a pension form. Uncle Roger had fought in the Spanish-American War and I had some scant information about his service. In fact, just enough to fill out all of the required blocks on the form. That was about a month or so ago. The other day I received a letter from the NARA, stating that there was a pension application on file, but that it was in the possession of the Veterans Administration in Boston. They listed the pension number (along with an alias Roger used) and advised me to contact the VA in Boston, Massachusetts. I called and in the course of my conversation, I was told Roger died March 10, 1955. The man also mentioned that his SS# was issued in either CA or another state, Washington I think. He said to write a letter to the VA with my request and they could copy the folder and send the info to me. However, he could not tell me anything else over the phone. That is all I have for now. 1. Geneology Humor
    2. Hi Listers, I received this on a geneology list I belong to and thought it appropriate for this list, especially with some of the posting lately. Diana, San Diego Looking for Roderick Lidgate Kinsman (original poem by Wayne Hand, 1999) Alas, my elusive kinsman You've led me quite a chase I thought I'd found your courthouse But the Yankees burned the place. You always kept your bags packed Although you had no fame, and Just for the fun of it Twice you changed you name. You never owed any man, or At least I found no bills In spite of eleven offspring You never left a will. They say our name's from Europe Came state side on a ship Either they lost the passenger list Or Granddad gave them the slip. I'm the only one looking Another searcher I can't find I pray (maybe that's his father's name) As I go out of my mind. They said you had a headstone In a shady plot I've been there twenty times, and Can't even find the lot. You never wrote a letter Your Bible we can't find It's probably in some attic Out of sight and out of mind. You first married a ......Smith And just to set the tone The other four were Sarahs And everyone a Jones. You cost me two fortunes One of which I did not have My wife, my house and Fido God, how I miss that yellow lab. But somewhere you slipped up, Ole Boy, Somewhere you left a track And if I don't find you this year Well......Next year I'll be back!

    3. Congradualtions Pat, I know how it feels to be in contact with a cousin. Two of mine, distant tracked me down on the internet, one I never met, the other babysat me when I was 2, 37 yrs. ago. They had tons of genealogy for me of a family I never knew. God bless you in finding the rest! 1. Solved mysteries and missed messages
    2. Ruth Miller
    3. Congratulations everyone on the spate of longstanding mysteries being solved at the moment ... great to see! I'm so happy for you all. Re the missed messages: I've been receiving a few every day, but the other day I found some I had missed from a couple of weeks back because they were strangely dated (1923, 1926 etc.) and had gone to the top of my "in" list where I never look. Ruth

    2. Hi Listers I am so excited as I just received a call this evening from my cousin who I was searching for in CA. He no longer lives there but he is in Colorado. Diana found a friend who used to know him in CA and he remembered his daughter and I called her and could not reach her and left a message last week. Then tonight while I was at a meeting he called. When I came home I returned the call and talked to him for the first time in almost 50 years. God Bless You for this Diana I cannot thank you enough. This was my Long Lost Cousin and now it gives me hope that my "Disappearing Grandfather" will Someday Be Found also. I still cannot get over this. I won't settle down for a week. Thank you goes to all the other Listers who gave me support, But do not forget We still have to find Howard Roy Weidmark who disappeared in or abt 1916. He also is the Grandfather of the Robert that we found. Pat
