    3. Anybody else but me think that we have been 'had'? Don't you guys think this is a very odd way to address a list? She can't be all that much of a newbie, either...not if she could find her way to this list and get herself subscribed! She certainly HAS to know how lists run, and it isn't by asking for personal responses to a mystery that isn't stated!!! :) I had a strange feeling about this one as soon as it was posted (daaaa! That didn't take a stroke of genius!:). Has anyone tried to contact her directly? Anne > Hello my name is Laura and I have a family mystery that is anything, but run of the mill. I know everyone says the same thing, but this one is interesting and heartbreaking. It has tortured our family for over 30 years. 3. OK. This is waayyyy out there, but..... Do you know anything about him prior to his marriage in 1902? Have you been able to find him on the 1900 census? I have recently found out that my mystery man, Harvey Bolin, may have changed his (last) name, at least, to a name related to the man who he murdered - the victim's mother's maiden name was Martin. One of Harvey's sons later lived in Knoxville - and I have wondered if the son was living with/near his father for a time. All we REALLY know for sure is that Harvey Bolin killed a man in Moore Co. TN in 1900, and Harvey was supposedly "never heard from again." The rumor from the victim's family side of the story, that Harvey may have changed his name to a name related to his victim, gives me some additional possible leads. It is a longer shot than anything, and probably nothing but fiction, but just thought I'd ask, to see if you know anything about your man prior to 1902. 1. Re: Gate Martin
    2. I read your latest note and thought it sounded familiar - man disappears leaving wife and children ...... then your last line or so "He worked for the railroad". I had to laugh. My grandfather was a railroad man, though can't prove it, he "borrowed" other peoples names. It was easy back in the first 25 years of this century to do that - nobody had birth certificates or proof of who they were. He picked names of people he had met at one time or another. He always worked as a railroad telegrapher, which evidently at that time was a good paying and a skilled position. Our theory now is that he "might" have caused an accident on the railroad and would have been banned from ever working for a railroad again. Good luck in tracking your Gate Martin (I don't think that was one of my grandfather's aliases) Marilyn

    2. I am trying to break through one of the may dead ends in my efforts to discover all of the descendants of my immigrant g-g-grandparents. Like most of us, I lack the ability to visit every state vital records office personally so I am asking for your help. Could someone please check the state register for the death of George LAUSCHER? DOB Sept. 1885 in WI DOD After 1944 - place unknown George's parents were Hubert LAUSCHER and Mary Ann STOFFELS. George is not listed on the Social Security death index. He divorced his wife and left his home in MI about 1934 when his youngest son was 3. He is now 70 and never heard from or saw his father again. Since I am not a regular subscriber to all state lists, if you have any information that could help me discover George's death date and resting place, would you please e-mail me personally. In advance, thank you. Janet Mihelich
