    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] What Happened 60 yrs ago????
    2. the davis clan
    3. Hello everyone--I have a family mystery that has all of us totally stumped. Our mother ran away and got married in 1935. Her name was Allie Marie Allen. She married an oilfield worker from Ok. Although he was working in NM,Tx at the time. She married him in Lovington NM. She ran away with a cousin whose nickname was "Tootise" and she also ran with another family member named "Sweet Thang". Mother and Lester lived in Odessa or Midland Tx while they were married. We never knew she had been married until each of us girls had already got married and it came out. We asked her about it and she said yes, and I will not talk about it. She said we did not have any more 1/2 siblings. What we do know is that cousins my age called him Uncle Al, for asked them one day if they knew. My parents had been married 9 years before I was born. so given the age and my cousins to have known him he had to have been around for some time after my parents were married. The whole family is still quite about it and will not tell us anything. We know that when mother left him she had to drive her car about 200 miles to her sisters house. Her foot kept falling off the gas pedal and she had to physically put it back on to drive further. When she got to her sisters house her sister had to help her into the house she could hardly walk. Now the strange part. Mother was crippled for all of our lives. But when she was younger she played basketball, and all sorts of sports. She told us she had polio and we believed her. Now that we know somethings we wonder. Then when JFK died she made a statement to me that we could have been kin to them. When my mom died I called her youngest sister and talked to her. The conversation came around to where I said something about Lester and you could have heard a pin drop from Tx to Oregon it got so quite, she said you girls knew about him? Then she told me that her and my uncle were discussing mom the day after she died and she said they were laughing about that was one secret that made it to the grave. Why won't they tell us? Facts: My mother was married to a man named Lester Allen Kennedy b 1906 Carter Co. Ok. She married him in 1935 (we have the certificate) She was divorced by 1940 when she married our dad Both she and my father are gone now and we think Lester is also. WHAT WE THINK: That Lester beat mother up and she lost a child That maybe somehow he was kin to the Kennedy's and she was threaten to be quite along with her family?? That's my story what do you think?????

    2. B. Rivas
    3. Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray; It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tomestones, It leadeth me into still court houses; It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records and ship's passenger lists for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries and microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement, For a strong urge is within me; The curiosity and motivation they comforteth me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents; It anointest my head with burning midnight oil, My family group sheets runneth over. Surely, birth, marriage and death dates shall follow me all the days of my life; and, I shall dwell in the house of a family-history seeker forever.

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] Unsolved Murder
    2. I have a dear cousin who was murdered 10 years ago, June 12, 1988. His name was Gary Keith Elmore. He was found in Cumberland County, Kentucky on the banks of the Cumberland River, one gunshot through the heart. We have tried to solve this murder with the help of detectives, etc. No leads. We have ideas, but you can't solve a murder on ideas. He was only 32 when we were robbed of his charm and warmth. Any clues? Anyone out there know anything about this? Would love to close the book on this. Debbie

    3. someone said the writings were that like a 12 year old child. I have an internet friend who is not very well educated (which I can tell by the way they write). Of course I could be writing to a child and not know it but they have a pretty good understand regarding the chronic lung condition we both have in common in if they are only 12. If you are judging their age by the way they write you could be sadly mistaken...... enough said, Lynn

    2. B. Rivas
    3. Sylvia Just a wild scenario. Is it possible that Harold's parents were somehow involved in "spying" for Germany? The time period is right. In 1930/31/32, Hitler was consolidating his power before war breaking out. As I said, a really wild idea. Could they have gone to Canada and just not been able to take such a new baby with them? That is really a very interesting mystery. Barbara [email protected]

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] Murder Mystery (New to list)
    2. Ernie/Jeanne Arguelles
    3. Hello! I'm new to the list and am hoping someone might have some suggestions for solving my family "murder mystery" involving my ggg-grandparents. Here's the deal: Francis "Franky" BERRYMAN married William THOMPSON 1831 in Madison Co., GA. In February 1842, Franky petitions for divorce (William had kicked her out and had several mistresses. On 13 Sept 1842, before the divorce is finalized, William THOMPSON is shot and killed by a slave. The slave is hung for the murder. One week later, Franky THOMPSON is in jail for murder!!! Now for my problem: There are several items in the Superior Court books that mention Franky THOMPSON's murder case through 1843, but nowhere does it say WHO she is charged with murdering. And the court book that covers the next 10 years is missing!!! The case apparently went on through 1846, as we find reference to it in the Subpoena Book. Did Franky really murder William? Or knock off his mistress? Or put the slave up to the murder? I just don't know where to look next! Jeanne Arguelles [email protected]

    2. Hi Alice, I agree. However, why did she not respond to mail sent to her in honest effort to assist her? And no, you aren't starting any problems. This is a fair discussion. I usually don't jump to conclusions, but my feeling when I read it was sorta like when the "yale guys" try to fool Ann Landers. Believe me, if I'm wrong in my opinion, then not only do I wish her luck, but will include her in my prayers. Perhaps I should anyway. Judy

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] parents disappeared
    2. Sylvia
    3. Harold Thiel was born on 19 Oct 1931 at 2574 Wallace Ave., Bronx, NY to Gerald and Elsie (Shell) Thiel, both born about 1906 in Germany. Harold grew up thinking he was adopted but upon retirement he learned differently. He had to send for his original birth certificate and it was on this document that he learned he had a sister about a year older. A search of the birth index in NYC produced only one possible child with the surname Thiel: Erika Thiel born 22 June 1930 in Manhattan At the age of six months Harold was left with a babysitter (in NYC) and his parents seemingly disappeared and he was raised by this family. At the age of fourteen he became ill and this family had to get a legal name change for him. It was in these papers that Harold learned the story of his beginnings or their version of it anyway. When he was left in the care of this family, they were paid the sum of $14.00 for two weeks babysitting (this suggests to me that they planned on returning), and never returned. Harold was in upstate New York with this family by March of 1933. What happened to Harold's parents? If they were planning on leaving him, why would they pay for two weeks babysitting, money was scarce then? Did something happen to them that they couldn't return? Where is his sister? Thanks for any help, Sylvia "mailto:[email protected]"

    3. Re: the person who signed the long letter as only ss. I wrote them with several suggestions as to how they could find the details on the fathers death. They wrote back saying that they have decided to forgive and forget. Then they added "we don't know whose reading this email"; because they insinuated that some politician was involved with his fathers death. When they wrote telling me they decided to "forgive and forget". I wrote back saying "fine but you were the one asking for help, I was just making suggestions". The email was returned to me "USER UNKNOWN"! That person is really mixed up in the head, first they ask for help then they don't want it, they send emails then they are worried about who may be reading them! I think the term is paranoid! Did anyone else have any dealings with this person? And what happened? till later, Lynn
