1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] im sure u are all sick of me but more new info and better
2. 4 of us grew up together as sibs ellen 10/28/57 donna 3/10/59 me 9/25/60 alexander 10/15/64 alexander was from a jewish family we know that for a fact and is not blood at all. talked to ellen my sister yes she is my real sister at least half. she says my adop mom told her that my adopted dad was donnas father mother unknown as of now but may have been named katheryn. he may have had a double life with donnas mother. as he was away from 7am to 7pm mon thru sun. every day now me and ellen had the same mother or father or maybe both it is possible that the mother of donna was also our mother but my adop dad was definetely was not our birth father. my non id does not match his birth yr. this same mother also had an older male that she kept which would have been born before 1957. she was 31 in 1960 , so i am looking for a male born before 1957 whos mother would have been younger then 28 in 57 .this would be my brother how much earlier i dont know they lived on east 4th street in manhattan where he was a super of the building he never had a legit job. did not like to pay taxes. i believe in 1957 as she remebers they lived there. then we moved to 1964 e 9th street and i have checked that area and no one lives there now that new anything. he was very secretive. and gone alot. and she now remebers being told about a lawyer named gladstone??? so i do have more info and facts and now a new angle the key seems to be with my adopt dad and his mysterious past. as he paid 10,000.00 for me. his name was alexander but for some reason people called him ben yes i have his ss application and his death certificate and all the info is the same. his family lives here in pa and knows nothing in fact most are not even alive anymore. im sure he covered his tracks very well. he worked at this horn and hartard? and rudleys rest all under the table and did maint work jo-ann

2. Jo-Ann ~~ I think you have a great abundance of information, even though you don't have all of your questions answered yet. I think starting with the Arthur Murray Dance Studio is a good beginning. Here is the best place to start [email protected] Please also try this site: GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES IN THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN AREA I have also taken the liberty to rewrite your letter. Below is an example of how you might begin to talk with Arthur Murray Studios. November 13, 1999 Dear Arthur Murray Studios: I am searching for my birth mother. Here are the details. If you can help, please contact me. "My a mom worked at Arthur Murray Dance studio in Newark, N.J. in 1947 (plus or minus a year or so). So she was already married when she worked there so I could have been someone she worked with that had the baby. Ellen (maiden name Thomson) and Alexander Maholage were my my adopted parents; both are deceased. They lived in New Jersey until at least 1952, then moved to New York (East 4th Avenue) until at least 1957, then they moved to 1964 E 9th Street. Alexander was also known as "Ben." Ellen was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on 30 Dec 1923. Ellen Maholage was a foster mother in New Jersey (Carlton Avenue) in 1951 (plus or minus a year). The foster license was issued by the New Jersey Board of Vital Statistics in Hudson, New York, but there is no record of her being authorized to do this. I have her marriage certificate stating that she was married in New Jersey in May of 1944. My adopted dad, Alexander "Ben" Maholage worked all over New York city. He had two friends; a Mr. Grant and a man named Goldstein or Gladstone who I believe were both attorneys. I have checked these names with no results. Everything else he did was cash under the table. He had also been a maintenance man and the "super" of an apartment building in New York at one time. He had also been a Merchant Marine. Two of his addresses were: S.S. J.C. LINCOLN STOCKARD S.S. CO 17 BATTERY PLACE, NY NY S.S. J.C. LINCOLN STOCKARD S.S. CO C/O SOCIETY NAVAL DELMAR VEL JAUX PARIS FRANCE He traveled and was gone alot, so I could have been born anywhere and then brought back to NY to be adopted. He also owned some property in Massapequa, New York and owned a store (with a man named Fred Bijou) named "Sundown To Sundown" in New York. I believe the store may have been in a Massapequa shopping center in the 1960s. At one time, I believe, my mother worked as a waitress in a restaurant named RUDLEYS in New York. I think my adopted dad may have managed or worked in the same restaurant. My mother also worked for RCA and a Telephone Company (not sure if those were in NY or NJ). I also believe that she may have worked in a plant of some type in Harrison N.J. (year unknown). My mother also worked in Macy's department store in New York in the 1960s. My adopted parents are both deceased. I am not familar with any of my adopted mother's three brothers; Charles, John, and Frank, but I have posted queries for them on Ancestry.com. My adopted mother's maiden name was Thomson, but she spelled it as Thom(p)son. Her her marriage certificate shows Thomson. There is a letter from one of her nephews, Robert F. Thomson; also spelled without the P. Her mom's name was Anne Willmes. The certificate shows that a woman named Margaret Harley from North Arlington witnessed the marraige. Either her brother or father's name was name was Francis Bernard Thomson. I could have been born in New Jersey, New York, or even Pennsylvania. I am petite, Italian-looking, with brown hair and big brown eyes. I have always looked younger than I am, so my birth year could be later than 1960. I have a lot of photos of myself from age three and up, and also some photos of unidentified people. I now have my non-ID, with mother listed as 31 years old and father listed as 45 years old, born in US. That is all the information I received for $75.00. I have tried every geneology site, every free post site, every registry including international soundex, New York adoption registries and all surname mailing lists from New York to New Jersey." If you have any information, please contact me. All leads greatly accepted. Sincerely, [email protected] Jo-Ann Never give up hope. Everyone can be found. Believe me. 1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] no new info abot me but i just got off the phone with robert f thomson
2. thank you all for help on look up i dont know a whole lot more on my birth parents but;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; i just spent the last hour on the phone with my adopted moms nephew my (thru adoption) cousin anyone ever heard of a food chain that sold sandwiches out of machines in ny called something like horn and hartard???????? thehe really didnt know anythin about my family but knew we were adopted and said that my adop mom told them that she suspected my middle sister donna born 1959 was possibly the birth child of my adopted father and we did suspect that ourselves at one time. he also said that my adopt dad got all of us children and my a mom had nothing to do with it he apparently arrange it all. and the other 2 of us may have the same mother or father which would be ellen 10/57 and me as donna 1959 would be his natural . so at least now i am looking for more than one birth family involved for us 3 as all along we thought they were the same parents so i guess im further along then i was. im concinced now that because he was very influential that it was a private adoption handled thru atorney and money exchanged. they were living on 4th avenue in new york where he was a super of the building when at least 1 or 2 of us possibly all 3 of us girls were born. although my earliest memories are about 4-6 in brooklyn ny jo-ann jo-ann

2. I have aways been told that the SSDI is not a factual listing of all of the deaths in the US with SS cards... It is only an index of those deceased who have had death benefits claimed.... this may be totally incorrect but it seems to fit. Hope this helps. 3. The last known address isn't always posted. As in the case of my father, it isn't posted, but he's on that list. The reason that the addy isn't posted is because the rest of us still live at the address. I think it's got his sisters addy or something like that "shrugs" Judi At 10:35 AM 11/13/99 -0000, bobert wrote: >Hello, Seekers: Suggest as a tool for solving/locating some of these >"mysteries of lost or disappeared family members", the Social Security >Index - which is on-line and can be found using a search engine - be >utilized. 3. Have you tried Switchboard? http://www.switchboard.com There are quite a few K.E. Smiths in NY. There are many, many Kermit Smiths all over the country, too. You might try Classmates at http://www.classmates.com/ if you know what school he graduated from. Good luck in your search. 2. Many thanks to all who responded to my "mystery" letter! XOXO I found out one more thing: He served in World War One / Army / Calvary. Does anyone know of / have databases with lists of service men/drafts/etc on WW1? Going by his birthdate, he would have been in the first (of three) drafts. Thanks! ....ORIGINAL MESSAGE: My Father's father disappeared in 1955. He went out for "cigarettes" (Lucky Strikes - no kidding)! and truly was never heard from or seen again. We have been searching for years..to no avail. Not even death records, SS#, or any traces of any kind have been located..nothing. He seems to have simply disappeared. If anyone ever comes across anything about the following indiviual - please let me know! Thank you! ALBION LEE ROWE Birth: March 9, 1892 Born in : Pensacola, Florida Last seen in 1955 in San Diego California. God Bless... Peggy Rowe [email protected]

3. Hello, Seekers: Suggest as a tool for solving/locating some of these "mysteries of lost or disappeared family members", the Social Security Index - which is on-line and can be found using a search engine - be utilized. Of course, the people listed are deceased, but the last known address of where the final SS payment was sent is listed. Then, suggest you look up the locality and search for the surname there -- again by using an on-line telephone directory. Then, write letters or make phone calls. Many times a living "same name cousin or other relative" will still be a resident of that particular city/town. Good hunting - good luck. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Shirley: [email protected]
