    3. Where oh where did the Currier's go. My fathers family came from France to Canada. When and where they came from in France & Canada is a ????? I have searched for 15 years & nothing. I have tried name changes also. The family always stated they were French- not Indian. I think some of the family lived in Quebec. my grandfather came to USA via Port Huron in 1885. Did he have brothers & sister??? I did try to hire a searcher but nothing. I have seen my grandfather spell the name CArrier Not CUrrier. I search and hope. Lady Patricia "Currier"

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] Man in WalMart Commercial
    2. Did anyone from this list happen to watch JAG on CBS tonight? I'm sober (I don't drink) and I'm not on any kind of drugs, but if you watched this show, did you notice the guy in the WalMart commercial? I usually tune out the commercials, but there was a picture of a man in a military uniform, and he strongly resembled the Jo or Joe on our Jo-Ann's webpage. Then the commercial showed this man at his current age, and he said that his name was Joe something-or-other, and I just about had a heart attack. Does anyone know how to find out names of people in WalMart commercials? Judy (aka Jo-Ann's adoptive mommy)

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] RE:"Gone West"-Orphanage,etc:
    2. My Thanks to all of you for your replies & input. I was amazed at the number & suggestions. As for the newspaper archives & Bakersfield, CA they will be checked out ASAP. Here is more of the puzzle or mystery or whatever. Yes, I do know for a fact that the children were put into an orphanage & the location of it, but they will not cooperate. {We tried for over 2 years to get them to cooperate enough to even get an appointment to talk with them}. They told me that when I got my youngest Aunt's Death Certificate, I could then get her Birth Certificate: I would know then what Both my Grandparents names were. Then I could go ahead & get Both of my Grandparents Death Certificates: Because THEN I would KNOW what my Grandparents names were. They knew when they told me that little tidbit of information that it was a BIG bunch of ????. Now that statement alone was a "?*?*?*?" Because you cannot get a Birth nor Death Certificate from anywhere IF you do not have a name to go with it. About the Death Certificates: My youngest Aunt & oldest Uncle had in the space for information of Fathers and Mothers names & each parents place of birth: UNKNOWN-UNKNOWN. Also I had been told all my life that Both Grandparents died in the Influenza Epidemic of 1918. The Math on that just does NOT quite work out: as my grandmother had given birth to my youngest Aunt in 1923! More about the Orphanage: Upon the children's arrival, they proceeded to change the spelling of the children's Given names & so forth. I guess the orphanage didn't particularly care for the spelling of those poor little orphans given names. HEY: WERE THEY ORPHANS? I wonder about that & have questioned it, only to be told that I just HAVE to be wrong in that assumption. I think maybe NOT, because people who are deceased are most generally buried Somewhere, with some kind of information about it someplace. Either written or verbal. I do know one thing, neither one of the grandparents are on record as being buried in any of the places that I have been told they were in. {by several different people & the newspaper article} BUT: IF they were NOT orphaned, then why won't the people who KNOW at least some of the actual FACTS stop the lying & the giving out of false & deliberately misleading information? Even the orphans-MY Family will not cooperate with any FACTS &TRUTHS. WHY ALL THE LIES? IF Grandparents are Deceased OR NOT: What difference could it possibly make to ANYONE about what really happened all those years ago? I do have someone arriving this week, who is doing more research along the way, hoping to find "A REAL NAME" We are doing actual legwork on this, along with using every avenue available-Internet, Ads, Inquires, Postings, Listings, Newspapers, Home Pages, Libraries, Court Houses, FHC, FTM, telephone, snail mail, phone books, {Cemeteries by phone & actually walking thru them.}--{Did I leave anything out?} to search out any & all leads. We will be doing more legwork this week. I will keep you posted, if you want. I most probably should never have written to the list in the first place. BUT, as I had already started something (with my reply to Jo-Anns message), I've written this & I'm sending it. I was only trying to answer some of the questions I had been asked on this list in regard to that message I sent Jo-Ann. MAYBE I will have a name to send soon. It is a MESS. I DO apologize for the length of this. Now you can see why I chose my screen name as I did.

    1. [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES] Finding a father
    2. Bob & Jo Ann
    3. My unsolved Mystery is that my mother-in-law never knew her real father, and she is 90 years young. I have been trying to find info, but the people that knew are already gone. So this is going to be one of those tough ones to figure out. She was born in Ransomville, New York in 1909. To a Lilly Hillman, any time mother would ask her mother, her mom would tell her to mind her own business and never did tell her who her real dad was. The story that I heard was the her was from a German family, and they they were just too young to be married. In those days they stuck to their guns! I do not have a glue where I could even look, I thought maybe the name would be on the birth certificate , but mother said that it just has her mothers name and that she had a female child, no mention of the father at all. So if anyone has any ideas out there please let me know. I'm open to what other people have to say. Sincerely Jo Ann --

    2. bobert
    3. Dear Seekers and Interested Lurkers: May I please suggest that instead of typing "Gen-Unsolved Mysteries" in the subject line of the message you are submitting, some sort of more definite/descriptive subject be typed. For instance, the surname of the person you are looking for/talking about, or the subject/circumstance of the mystery you are sharing. It would help those who subscribe to many lists/digest. Trust I have not stepped on anyone's toes by suggesting this. Good hunting - good luck! Shirley: [email protected]

    1. Stewart Mystery
    2. Ed & Lisa Wagner
    3. I have searched and searched and listened to the wildest family lore! I am trying to find my gg grandparents, Alexander Stewart b abt 1839, married Amanda Williams (she's listed on the 1850 census for Coahoma Co, MS, b. abt 1823) in 1868 (rumor has it) at Friar's Point, Coahoma Co, MS. They had a son, John Wesley Stewart or John Williams Stewart (his children argued over which middle name he was given). Family history says he was born abt 1874 in LA and he fell off the face of the earth between 1902 (the year of his last child's birth) and 1905 (the year of his mother's death). They either lived in or around Ashley County, AR. Here's what I have: 1 Alexander Stewart b. 1839 TN? m. 1868 Friar's Point, Coahoma County, Mississippi Amanda Williams b. 25 Apr 1823 TN d. 21 Sep 1905 2 John Wesley (Williams) Stewart b. 1874 Louisiana d. unknown m. 2 Dec 1892 Arkansas Lula Mae Lindsey b. 15 Nov 1874 Ashley County, Arkansas d. 12 Nov 1957 (I would think the marriage date questionable since my aunt told me they eloped) 3 Alexander Harrison Stewart b. 17 Oct 1893 Arkansas d. 27 Jan 1894 Arkansas 3 William Allen Stewart b. 31 Dec 1895 Ashley County, Arkansas d. 24 Jun 1973 m. 7 Feb 1923 Arkansas Velma Taylor b. 9 Aug 1905 Drew County, Arkansas d. 24 Jun 1987 (My grandfather; two children: Dortha Stewart Barr and Bettye Stewart Shields-both still living. My mother has him down as being born in de Bastrop, AR-which does not exist and maybe never did) 3 Amanda May Stewart b. 26 Mar 1897 Arkansas d. 1982 Rogers, Arkansas m. Charles Smith b. 1893 d. 1970 Rogers, Arkansas (one daughter, Doris. no children; I don't have her spouse's name) 3 John Evans Stewart b. 4 Oct 1898 Arkansas d. 1937 Corpus Christi, Texas (he left home because his mother didn't like the girl he wanted to marry; would love to know whether he married her or not) 3 Fanny Fay Stewart b. 12 Oct 1900 Arkansas d. 20 Nov 1900 Arkansas 3 Nannie Adele Stewart b. 28 May 1902 Arkansas d. Oct 1981 Miami Co, KS m. Olaf Mooney (she changed her first name to Marie; she married several times; no children) My mother and aunt, and their children, are all that is left of this line. We think John may have been adopted; or maybe he was being "assimilated". My aunt has a picture of him and he's definitely Native American. Amanda Williams had a brother/cousin (we're not sure) named B.F. Williams who was a judge in OK-maybe John was born there. My mom and aunt would love to know if just ran off or maybe his wife's family did him in. Lisa Wagner [email protected]
