MARTIN'S CHURCH, BOWNESS. ______ My mind goes back to ages dim and stern When erst my eyes gaze on this record old For though long years have fled we still discern That life is but a tale that soon is told. In other days methinks I see the good And way worn toiler coming here to read This richest gift of blessed Heav'nly food - This token of Paradisal mead. How changed to-day from these brave days of yore Each house has now this treasure trove of worth, All can have the word of sacred love, Blest gift of God to dwellers of the earth, We are more blessed than those that read this book When first 'twas chained within this holy nook.
