    3. They have the same effect on me Liz. I swell up and it takes weeks to get rid of the inflammation. I have a 'thing' about any sort of fly and they have to be got rid of as soon as they come in the same room as me. Twice I have been bitten by them and landed up with a swollen leg and once the infection started spreading up and down my leg along a vein. I was advised to always carry some ant-histamine tablets so that I can take one straight away if I get bitten. They have wings more like a moth than a fly & are quite big. The females bite horses, cattle & humans, the males just go for nectar from plants. They're not nocturnal as a rule - was the table light turned on ? They have fairly big eyes & a bite can be painful cos they have a sort of knife type apparatus that they use for *slash*you with, rather than a normal insect bite. Pat.xxx :o)) A Maid of Kent, UK. 3. There's been loads of horsflies around, on the canals and quite a lot of them have taken a likeing to me lol I keep TCP handy, and, if I dont swat them before they get me, I dab TCP on the bite and that seems to take the *sting* off it almost straight away Hugs John xxx....... on the Shropshire Union Canal, nr Nantwich, at the mo ...... BTW TCP isnt very good as an aftershave lol They have the same effect on me Liz. I swell up and it takes weeks to get rid of the inflammation.
