I keep Piriton tablets & Eurax cream with me all the time cos I get swollen & infected, too. Both available over the counter. Twice I have been bitten by them and landed up with a swollen leg and once the infection started spreading up and down my leg along a vein. I was advised to always carry some ant-histamine tablets so that I can take one straight away if I get bitten.
