    3. Why do I let the pasta boil over - no matter what my intentions I often take my eyes off the pan at the crucial moment. And I hate cleaning that mess of the ceramic hob- has anyone got any tips for cleaning it? What do you use, or am I the only stupid whatsit that does this Liz

    3. No tips on cleaning it, but - if you put a drop of oil in the pan, it won't boil over. I use a drop of extra virgin olive oil - it doesn't spoil the flavour. 3. Thanks Pat, and others The oil sounds good 'cos I can't see me ever stopping that pot boiling over as soon as my eye is deflected, let alone my back turned!!!! Sue and Ros, I haven't got the art of mopping up stuff when still wet - it seems to attract the cotton of my cloth even if it is damp and that thern sticks to it as well :-((( Ros - my hob is the "glass" type and the heating elements are underneath. 3. I have one Liz . .. and love it . .. precisely because of those boil-overs. Used to absolutely HATE cleaning the old gas or electrical elements after a spill. If the pasta, rice or potatoes boil over (which they invariably do in this house) I usually do a quick mop up with a damp cloth (just to stop the sizzling). Then when I've finished cooking and the top is cool, I use a razor blade scraper (one of those small, hand held gadgets that enclose a single edged razor blade). By holding it angled quite flat against the surface, I can scrape off the baked on "stuff". Wipe over with a damp cloth to pick up the charred remains -- then use a ceramic top cleaner. <which reminds me, I need to buy some more> A few dollops of the cream applied in firm circular motions all over the cooker's surface with a damp paper towel. .. really work it into the spill areas. Then polish off with a clean paper towel ... et voila. A good as new cooker top. 3. Don't put the lid on too tight ... Ours never boil over ... BUT - my advice would be - mop it up as soon as it does boil over - don't wait until it's cold - it comes off the saucepan and spoons much easier if it's hot ... 3. Liz, It's one of the laws of Dear Mother Nature. No matter how watchful you are, it is NOT possible to boil pasta - or rice - without it boiling over! As for cleaning the burnt result off a ceramic or glass hob... Bron has a gadget with a razor blade in it and she pushes this at the mess to 'slice' it off.
