Sports .... Well --- I'm not at all keen on a discussion on "who's team is best" - or didn't they do well" .. - But - I'm not against talking about the "history" of sport - or - whether places & people "benefit" or "disbenefit" from sports ... For instance - when Torville & Dean won all the medals they did - including the 1984 World - Nottingham benefited from their performances ... People became more aware of Nottingham - almost as much as they do when you mention "Robin Hood" ... :-) .... Tourism - based around them - brought money to the City ... But - they got a grant from the Local Authority - and there were people around at the time - who thought they shouldn't have gotten the money from the rate-payers' ... Sue .... or Cricket, or Snooker or Polo, or Darts... In fact, no sports at all - please! Would "This week's shopping expedition" be suitable? - the problems it entailed - the traffic, stock shortages, weird offers, shop assistants (good and bad)... Howiein the subject and the body of the message
