OK, folks, time for a new Topic of the Month. This time it's Village Life. If anyone has personal experience of living in a small rural community perhaps you might share with us any interesting (or even mundane) local customs, colourful characters, occurrences, anecdotes, memories of special events, local sayings, traditions, etc. What was the village like physically, stone cottages, thatched roofs, a manor house perhaps? What about the church, the shop, the school and the Pub? Was there a forge, a farrier? What flowers, plants and animals/birds were found locally? If you were raised in a village how did you amuse yourself as a child? If you have gathered stories or descriptions of the villages of your ancestors please share those with us too. As villages were the hubs of farming areas feel free to include stories and memories of farms and farming practices.
