Geo. <OUCH!> THE WESTMORLAND GAZETTE SATURDAY 13th SEPTEMBER 1862 KESWICK ACCIDENT On Monday last, Mr. Charles Gray, water-banking engineer, met with an accident which might have been attended with serious results. As two of his workmen were driving a spile by the water edge, Mr. Gray being engaged in steadying it for them, his foot slipped, and being afraid of falling into the river, he inadvertently placed his hand on the top of the spile as the hammer was descending and it was crushed in a most shocking manner. He was immediately conveyed home, and placed under the care of Mr. Brown, surgeon, under whose treatment he is progressing favourably, it being hoped that amputation will not have to be resorted to.
