    3. Transcribed by Ann Selchick. Geo. THE NORTHERN NEWS, OCTOBER 9, 1897. NEGLECTING HIS FAMILY. _____ Charles John RUDDICK, miner, was brought up on a warrant, at the instance of the Board of Guardians and charged with neglecting to maintain his wife and children, whereby they had become chargeable to the Union. Defendant said he had got work at the Blackett Colliery, and had taken, and partly furnished a house at Haydon Bridge. He was ready to take his wife and family out of the workhouse that day. Mr. REAY, relieving officer, on behalf of the Guardians, agreed to the withdrawal of all proceedings on defendant undertaking to repay the costs already incurred. Defendant undertook to pay these at 10s a month. Mr. REAY intimated that defendant had caused the Guardians trouble before, and if he did not carry out what he had undertaken, they would have to press for the maximum punishment. ******
